Working with Digital Photo Thumbnails in Adobe Photoshop Elements

When you open the File Browser to a folder of images, they are displayed as they were when you last opened the File Browser. You can display images as small, medium, or large thumbnails, or you can display each image file as a thumbnail followed by pertinent details of the file. When you display a folder of images, you have the equivalent of a digital light box.

Change Thumbnail Size

You can change thumbnail size at any time. Changing thumbnail size enables you to view more thumbnails at one time when you select a small thumbnail size or more image details when you choose a larger thumbnail size.

  1. Open an image folder.
  2. Choose a thumbnail size from the View By drop-down menu shown next.

After you select a thumbnail, pertinent information about the image is displayed in the Image Information window.

Increase the size of the display window when sorting images. This will give you a better look at the image, and can help decide whether or not you want to edit the photo.

View Details

If you require more information than the thumbnail image offers, you can view a small thumbnail of a file and pertinent details about the image file. This option is handy when you need to know information, such as the file size, date created, or date modified, about a file before opening it.

  1. Open an image folder.
  2. Choose Details from the View By drop-down menu shown previously. The following image shows image files as viewed by the Details option.
