MP3 Players : Apple iPod Video 30GB White

Well everyone dosent care about the good points so lets start with the bad.

Low Battery Life:
I bought my iPod with my home made 14-year-old money. 2 or 3 months later I took a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. This Flight Started in MN, had a detour in IL, then finally made it to new orleans. We we're only to use ipod ON the plane (Misson trips rules) By the time I made it to Louisiana, my battery icon had just a pinch of color left in it. So of course I had probably 10 minuetes of ipod for the ride home. The ipod probably lasted me a little over 4 hours. Watching videos makes bettery power fly.

Hard drive Overheats:
At the weirdest times, pretty much everytime after I finished charging, or upgrading my ipods hard drive would over heat. One time it switched to a bright white screen, yet the light kept running. It dosen't let me press any buttons. What the crap am I suppose to do? Put it in the freeze? No, so I just wait for the battery to run out. So the bettery is out and I can plug it in again (as I couldn't before) and it works fine. This happend 3 times to me and I havent even botherd to call customer evil- I mean customer care.

On the flip side the ipod video is a fun and easy way ofmaking time fly. You may have heard that ipods scratch alot? I bought a 30 gig black ipod (blacks scrath ALOT more I guess) and bought a case right away that covers, body, and screen. after what? 5 months NOT A SCRATCH ON IT! The ipod may have some kinks to be fixed, it is a great mp3. With a little luck and you being careful enough you should be just fine. The people who have problems with suctomer care damaged the ipod themselves. I fyou be careful you wont even have to go through that.

I had the 60G IPOD for 12 days when the LCD cracked. Most of the screen is now black. I, like many people, had the IPOD in my pocket when this occurred. After waiting an hour for customer service they told me that it was an accident and is not covered. Therefore, I would have to pay the replacement fee. At this time the customer service representative suggested that I just purchase a new one (as if he was doing me a favor) due to the high replacement costs. I was shocked and disappointed. My son purchased 1/2 the ipod and we purchased the other as a gift for him. He is not a kid who is hard on his belongings but still is a kid where things get put in backpacks, etc. He began having difficulty with his ipod after about 6 months and sent it in for repair. The service dept said there was a dent on the back of the player and therefore the warranty was void. We, like Howard, were told we could purchase a replacement, but the price was the same as a new one. Also had to pay about $50 to send it in only to be told it wasn't able to be repaired.
When we received the damaged ipod the dent was only able to be seen if you held it in good lighting at the right angle. He kept it in a sleeve for a time and then a fairly stiff cloth covered case, but apparently not a hard enough case to protect it from denting.

If a produce isn't ready for normal wear and tear, it shouldn't go to market. If you purchase, put a hard case on it and use very gently. Like the service dept told us, " this item is like a tiny computer and has to be treated as such." Wish they had put a warning label on it telling us to not carry on, don't enjoy it, just sit at a table and listen nicely to your ipod video lest you lose your warranty and the bucks that you worked pretty darn hard to earn. The Video is overall a 9/10, but it's not real easy to load videos. Also, the battery life runs low QUICK compared to a guaranteed time span of 12 hrs (?), and somehow, the back just achieves these scratches from practically nowhere! Hide Full Review

My old iPod died on me, even though the guys at the Apple store did what they could. I ended up buying a new 30GB video iPod (a nice upgrade from my old one). It has a bigger, color screen, plays videos, and holds even MORE songs. It's also lighter and slimmer then my old one. And I know from experience that if anything were to go wrong with it, Apple is there to help.

The only con I could find had to do with the software and transitioning to a new Pod. But I think that had more to do with my PC. I was afraid that I would lose all my songs (more than 2,000). But I didn't, they were all still there and everything worked perfectly.
