HDTV & Televisions : LG 50PC1DR

I love this TV. Everything worked right out of the box except for the TV Guide feature, which was one of the main reasons that I went with this TV along with the DVR. LG Support was useless, first telling me that I had to power off my brand new Plasma TV and leave it plugged in for 72 hours without turning it on. I made it through, turned it on, and the TV Guide Feature still didn't work.



Long story short, the problem isn't with LG or TV Guide. The problem is the provider. In my case, Comcast, didn't want to broadcast the TV Guide signal because it interferes with their ability to force people to rent their HD DVR boxes.



Something must have happened because a few weeks ago, the TV Guide service started working.

I bought this TV about 8 months ago and I love it. The fact that I don't need to rent a seperate cable box and use a seperate dvr keeps my home theatre setup very clean and simple. The TV Guide works great, but it does take several hours to configure if you only want to view the channels you regularly watch.



My only complaint about this TV is that it has on occasion turned itself on. LG still needs to work some bugs out for the next generation because I've read about this same problem from other users of this TV. It has only happened a couple times since I bought it, but it is strange.



The picture quality is excellent with all of the HD channels. The standard channels aren't as clear, but it's really more a function that they are broadcast in 480i instead of 720p or 1080i. It's not the TV's fault in my opinion.



Overall, despite the minor bug of it turning itself this TV gives you a lot of bang for the buck and I strongly recommend buying it. Hide Full Review

I have read other reviews and decided I would throw my two bits in. I find the picture to be good both in HD and standard broadcasting. DVDs look and sound great (I do have a surround sound setup). Everything worked great out of the box, easy setup. You can manually set the TV guide if you have trouble. Recording is so easy, just go to TV guide, click on the show and that is it.
Some of the problems noted may be cable provider issues (I use charter). I have never had to use support services so I cannot speak to that.
Also, Consumer Reports rate this model as one of its two picks for 50 inch.

We are going on a week trying to figure out how to use the DVR feature fully - looks like we're hung up getting the TV Guide loaded and now I'm wondering if it is a Comcast issue after reading the other review. We've been given three different answers each time we've called their support line. Manual isn't very helpful.

IF we're able to get the DVR working with the TV Guide, I will be ecstatic...but really, it shouldn't be this hard! Hide Full Review
