HDTV & Televisions : Toshiba 56HM66

As I was reading in the last review, I to got the deal at 1,200.00. Also got a lg dvd up-conversion player. Picture looks great watching dvd's. I didn't get the warranty plan because I got one before on a rear projection tv and never used the warranty. The bulbs in DLP tv's are easy replaced by the consumer. (Even shown in the owner manual) And most warranty plans don't include bulb replacement. Instead of getting the warranty I suggest you put the money u would of spent on one in a banking account. And use that money on your own repair man if your t.v. breaks. Bottom line on this t.v. best value i've seen so far. I say skip the warranty but that's for u to decide. Hide Full Review

This Television seems like a bargain at your local BestBuy's, Circuit City, etc...., but be warned that the lamp will go out no too long after. The cost to replace the lamp is $250. I contacted Toshiba about this and referred them to this website with all the negative comments, and they could care less. I will never buy a Toshiba product again!! Hide Full Review

I picked this TV up the Saturday after Thanksgiving and must say that I was sshocked at how good of a deal I got. I had been looking at Samsung DLPs for a few months and was set on getting one until I saw this one in Best Buy. I didnt get it from them I actually gotr it from Sears because they pricematch plust they give you 10 % of the difference which made this tv cost 1129 plus tax. you cant beatthat for a 56 inch tv.
As stated before the 480 signals I am really impressed with. Standard tivo looks great. when you watch something in HD you will be blown away. Definitely take time and tweek your settings because its TOO bright straight out of the box. Also you will need a surround sound because the tv speakers leave something to be desired but you wouldnet be buying the tv for sound would you. overall for 1200 bucks with tax this was a steal in my opinion. Bought the TV through a Black Friday deal at Best Buy in 2006 like many others. We haven't had any DLP chip, bulb or color wheel issues regarding this TV yet, and we've had it for 7 months. The sound quality for such small speakers almost requires you to have an external speaker setup for a large room. As for the half-year review, the TV really has been excellent. Hide Full Review

I had this TV for 4 months when the picture decided to go haywire. If it wasn't for the 30 day return policy where I bought it, I would have taken it back. I called the 'authorized' service center and they came out a week later. Initially the tech said the onboard computer needed to be reset every six months and that it was normal. He said that if it happened more often than every 6 months, they would replace the board. I called Toshiba about this, as it seemed rediculous, and they said they had never heard of this. One week later it broke down again with the same problem. This time the tech said he was going to order the new parts for it. He said if I hadn't heard anything for a couple of days to give them a call. Long story short, it's now been 6 weeks and the TV still isn't fixed. Toshiba have now said they will replace the TV since the parts that were ordered are on back order and will take at least another 3 to 4 weeks. We will still have to wait a couple of weeks before we can get it replaced but it's better than a month. Given the choice, I would stay clear of this TV. Looking at other commenst on this site, there are reliability concerns with this TV. Even if you buy the extended warranty, I expect you will be kept waiting way too long for it to be fixed.
