Digital Cameras : Canon PowerShot A510

This is my second digital camera that I have owned. My last was a Samsung and I lost it so I purchased this Canon A510. This camera caught my eye with its simplicity and versatility. It takes great quality pictures, and has great picture features. Even in low light or no light the pictures still come out great. There are only three things I do not like about this camera they are which is said alot, the battery life, memory card storage, and I think the LCD could be a litttle bigger. My first camera, never mind digital. My only beefs were also battery life, and memory. I spent the extra $30 and got a 128MB memory card, and haven't even come close to being able to fill it. It still would have been nice if the camera had come with something a little bigger than 16MB. While learning how to use the camera, I blew through about 4 sets of batteries. Lately, however,I am more comfortable with the operation, and don't go through them quite so often. Never been a big fan of rechargeable batteries, but it has been about 6-7 years since I tried them. We have 4 digital camera's in my family. Believe me, this one has the longest battery life out of all of them. My old Minolta goes through 4 AA's about every 20 pictures. If you have rechargables and keep an extra set with you, you should be all set. All digital cameras eat batteries for lunch, that's simply the nature of the beast.

Also, all digital camera's come with a teeny tiny card. That's known as "out of the box" memory. So you can try it when you pull it out from under the Christmas tree. Memory cards are cheap enough, a 256Mb holds plenty.

I also think that the software that is included is the best by far that comes with cameras. Keeps pictures very organized. The only drawback is that you can't really enhance too easily but I have Adobe for that so it's not an issue.

Luckily, I bought a 512M SD card at the same time I bought my A510, as the SD card that comes with the A510 is only 16M -- way too small.

The batteries run out quickly with this one, but if you use rechargables, that's not too much of a worry or expense.

The camera works well with almost any lighting situation you'll find yourself in. I'm very happy with my purchase. Hide Full Review

This is a great starter camera, takes beautiful pictures and easy to operate. Had to buy rechargeable batteries because it goes through regular batteries quickly. Also, the flash takes a while to recharge in between pictures. Hide Full Review
