HDTV & Televisions : Akai LCT42Z7TA

We have a AKAI 42 inch tv. After 7 months the picture went. It has a year warranty but AKAI has no service in the US. They apprently arrange for service by contacting local service places willing to take what they pay to come out to fix the tv. In our case they gave us the name of a place nearly 3 hours away. The place said there was no way they would travel that distance for a call. They also said, despite what AKAI claimed, they had not gotten any paper work about us or agreed to come out. So AKAI said that they would contact the corporate office and we would have another service center assigned. They also said they can take up to one month to find one. Then they told us that it can take 2 months more to get the tv fixed because they (yes, AKAI) take so long to get parts to the service places. So, they give themselves at least 3 months to get your tv fixed. I looked at reviews -a bit late-and found endless posts from people with AKAI TVs, no picture and a huge run around by the company. The company does not give the address or number of the corporate office. If you can travel to ASIA with your TV when (not if) it breaks within the first year, then you might consider buying one. Otherwise. my advice is to avoid this company and any of their products. it is unknown for a reason. Not because it is new but it is lousy! Also, we loved the TV for the first few months. So, if you are reading this and enjoying a new AKAI, do not rest easy. Ours simply stopped showing a picture. sound was fine. THe cable company came immediately but told us it was the TV and not the cable. Too bad AKAI is not anything like US cable companies. Hide Full Review
