Laptops : Apple MacBook 1.83 GHz

I'm a switcher. Used PCs all my life, but when Apple released the Macbook, I reconsidered. It would have been easier to stick with PCs, but where else could I get a laptop that was less than 1" thick, with a core duo processor and so many slick features for under $1200? Vaio's are cool but too pricey.

Bottom line with the Macbook is that it takes away any reason you might have to stick with PCs. Still not convinced? Get bootcamp and use the Macbook with Windows.



On the downside there are some build issues (I've heard many reports of buttons sticking, etc.), and it tends to run pretty hot. So, it may be worth it to wait a couple months until Apple can work out the kinks of this new product. Hide Full Review

I had been researching and trying out and drooling over a MacBook ever since I started fooling around with my girlfriend's MacBook Pro.

After extensive research and reading multiple reviews, I finally decided to purchase a White MacBook (1.83ghz version) for a final price (with student discount) of 1,117 bucks.

This computer is an insanely AMAZING value for the amount of features it offers. Using a Unix-based Mac OS X platform gives it the ultimate protection against viruses, it includes a built-in iSight, wireless card, glossy screen, excellent and extremely comfortable keyboard, Front Row with Apple Remote, and a host of different applications that you will fall in love with. (Expos頷ill freak you out. I've NEVER seen anything so useful AND awesome on a PC, EVER.)

My internet connection with MacBook is excellent and application or program download times are wonderfully short. Safari is, in my opinion, a WAY BETTER web browser than Microsoft's Internet Explorer. It is so much more user-friendly the IE 6 or 7, and Safari doesn't SHUT DOWN ON YOU EVERY FIVE MINUTES. I've had the computer for two months now and the Safari browser has shut down on me TWICE. Hard to beat that track record... Acquiring pictures from different websites is also amazingly simple, and if you're a musician, Mac OS X comes with the award winning GarageBand.

As a composer and musician I consider this program to be simply beautiful.

It also works SEAMLESSLY with my music and video files, and I've been recently learning the ropes with iMovie so I can fool around and create music videos for my band.

If there's anything negative that I would have to say about the MacBook, it's that once in a while, when I'm burning a CD or downloading a program, the fan wind up and it's almost like it's gonna take off in flight. After the operation is completed the fan slows down again. I think this issue can be addressed, however, by installing the latest version of the SMS Firmware Update in the Apple downloads section.

Another issue to watch out with is that it gets pretty hot after extensive use, but hey... ALL laptops can get pretty hot after extensive use.

Like ANY computer you're purchasing, you're gonna have to deal with some minor issues.

Having written that, I STRONGLY suggest ANYONE to buy this computer.

The Macbook is by far the best laptop I have ever owned (after a Sony Vaio and a Dell). It has basically all the software most home users or media enthusiasts will need right ot of the box. Since you can run Windows (natively under boot camp, or within Mac OS X using Parallels Desktop virtualization software... with the later you can even run Linux).



In my experience, you can do basically anything you need to do with this laptop... unless you are a graphics professional in which case you need the Pro version with a dedicated graphics card.





Apple support has always been helpful and courteous however you really should buy the 250 dollar AppleCare plan that extends the warranty on all hardware and software issues to 3 years. Especially given that laptops are more delicate and recieve more jostling than a desktop.





The price is a few hundred more than a bottom end Dell, etc... but Apple's included iLife suite of software would run several hundred dollars exra on the PC... even if you could find comperable software. Not to mention, OS X is a better operating system than windows XP and you generally don;t need to worry about spyware removal programs and virus subscriptions.





Highly recommended.

I asked my parents for a new laptop before school started and so they said I could get the Macbook Pro ( I was a little worried about it being so big but I got over it) any way we went into the apple store and the macbook was just released that day and I saw the white one and was all over it saying that was the laptop I wanted!





From the color, I mean come on all other laptops are metallic, black or grey this one is a sleek, white one.



I love all the features on it like the built in eyesight to the unique style of keyboard overall this is a dream laptop that I have always wanted!
