Desktops : Apple Power Mac G5 Dual 2.7Ghz

Moving from the PC world to the Mac world 2 years ago, and now to the MacPro, I have never seen a better machine for home use.





Speed is the key word... and no fan noise, no over heating unlike my HP desktop which would heat up my house even when I was not in front of the keyboard.



Rendering video in real time is awesome, blazing scrolls in my 30000 photos, running WinXP at the same time for my son's games, it's all what I wanted in a home computer.



I started with a 250 gig drive, and soon added a second one which I added in raid-0, then 2 500 gig drives for my data, again, mirrored. Adding drives is a easy as lifting a lever, pulling out a tray and pushing it back in. No screws, not even thumb-screws. Adding memory is as easy.



Adding an external 500 gig drive (for backups) is as easy as plugging it in using firewire-800, speed is almost as internal drives!



Being a 4 core machine, I recommend at least 2 gigs of main memory and not the basic 1.
