Laptops : Averatec 5110P

Good choice for small businesses, SOHO, students, and personal use. This notebook comes with excellent features for the price including a 15" screen, built in WiFi, 40GB hard drive, 512 RAM, DVD/CD RW combo drive, Microsoft XP Pro and Microsoft Works (best described as a freeware version of Office). The case is 1" thick and sturdy. I disagree with ZDnet about overall performance or the display. Both are up to par with other notebooks (the 5110P compares well to the Dell Inspiron 1100). Like most laptops, the 5110P has less than advertised battery life; I have had results of 3 to 4 1/2 hours running MS Office, browsing the Internet, and watching movies. Burning CDs for back-up and music has been easy. The touch pad must be adjusted to be less sensitive than its out-of-the box setting. There is limited documentation and online support, but my two toll free phone calls to tech support (based in the US) have been quickly and correctly answered. One year warranty. Hide Full Review

I have checked on the Notebooks for 2 months, including Toshiba's and Sony's that cost $400 and more than this Averatec 5110p.Most do not even have features like this one. The only complaint I have is the DVD burner does not burn DVD as well as I would like it to. I am wondering if it is the software problem or hardware. I am still testing and trying it out. The keyboard layout is excellent, the battery is not lasting as long as they say it should. My verdict is give it a try, new kid on the block, seems to be a lot better than one would think.
