Cell Phones : Blackberry 7100g

terrible software, constantly have to download new updates, slow, slow, slow whenever you do anything and I do mean anything. If you are looking for a phone to respond to your every touch this is not the one. The blackberry network is always down. The devices themselves have a number of issues as well. The company has sent me my 3rd device. the first one couldn't open any e-mail attachements, 2nd and 3rd pda's have problems staying on.
That's right people, it crashes and powers out whenever it wants. (You are fortunate enough to look at a cute little hourglass while your expensive PDA is thinking.)

The phone reception on it is pitiful.

I had an older model Blackberry with the full qwerty thumb board and recently recieved this. The screen resolution is far better than the 87xx and 77xx series. I don't have a problem reading emails since more fits on the screen. It is a much smaller form factor and doesn't look strange when you use it as cell phone. The keypad is qwerty with 2 letters shared per key. The suretype feature makes up for the doubling up of the letters on the keys with 95% accuracy. The email filters are available on the phone so you don't have to use you PC to change them. There is a global search feature that allows you to search email, contacts, memos, calendar, etc. Hide Full Review

Being a student, up to the minute email alerts are not on my requirements when I bought it. The 7100g takes a little bit of time to get used to but taking that time will allow you to enjoy the features in the future. I have not yet had any problems with reception with calling that I have not had with regular cell phones. The problem could be your reception in that area or your service provider. Talking in public places have other noises to deal with, so either buy an ear piece or move to a area with less noise. (If you are on a public bus or train please tell the person you will call back later, its annoying and you look stupid talking to when no one else is) Hide Full Review

If this is your first multipurpose comunication device, you may like it. But if you had PDA phones in the past you will probably hate this one as much as I do. If you like Blackberry for the "TEXT ONLY" E-mail function, then the FREE tag on the device is ok (they make all the money from the plan of course). Not a good tool to stay organized or browse the net, unfortunately. Nice attempt at multi-function, but still needs lots of work. Wait for the next generation (if they don't lose the infringement lawsuit, that is)... ~:(
