Digital Cameras : Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z1000

This is a great little camera for the average person, or the photo fannatic. It has pictures that are almost better than you see them in real life, and has many settings to change and improve the photo upon what you are photographing. It is sleek, beautiful, SUPER STURDY, and just a joy to use.I have had a great time using it to take pics of my dogs, and you can choose the quality of the photo or movie you are making (for if you want to use less memory). One photo uses about 2.6mb of memory, so you can take around 200 10 megapixel photos on a 512mb memory card, or thousands of photos and hours of movie on a 2gb card. This is a great camera. This is a great camera you just have to take some time to learn how to use it. The picture quality will blow you mind when you see how you can crop something and it doesnt seem like it looses any resolution at all or blow a picture up to 20 x 30. The pre-set best shot settings make it very easy to get the perfect picture and the quick shutter speed makes sure you dont miss anything.
I would suggest that you go a store and make sure you like the aestetics of the camera however when you look at the cameras playback in the lcd it doesnt do the real picture justice so keep that in mind. On more thing about the lcd, it did bug out on my once but i just turned it off and then back on, other than that its much beter than my Dimage z2 and my friends Canon, Sony, and kodak.
So why did i not give it perfect scores. I have no idea how the support is because i havent had any real problems. Ease of use - im low light situation it takes ok pics, however if you know how to make a few adjustments they turn into great ones. And shutter lag - i havent really used the camera for any sporting event or faces pace scenes so i cant really say its perfect. Hide Full Review

I just bought this little baby a week ago and I can't stop talking about it. I live in Japan so the user guide is all in Japanese, but I figured out how to use the camera and its features in about ten minutes on the train ride home.This despite the fact that I don't really know what I am doing when it comes to taking pictures. I bought this because it had the biggest screen, the most megapixels, and a long-lasting battery. And it was on sale. But since then I have had no regrets.



This camera is great for the novice because it comes with 36 'Best Shot' settings which you choose based on descriptions and example photos (i.e. anti-shake, party, pets, fireworks, food). Pick the pic that is closest to what you are trying to do and the camera does the rest (well, you still have to aim and shoot).



I am quite satisfied with the videos i have shot as well. The speaker is loud enough so that I can hear it, though it would be nice if I could plug headphones in. (I don't know if other cameras have an earphone jack or not. They should.) Also I really like the 'Motion Print' function, which allows you to select frames from your videos and save them as still shots. The only downside is the resolution suffers dramatically: photos are VGA, which is less than 2 Megapixels and a far cry from 10. Still it is a nice way to capture otherwise uncapturable moments.



One concern is the need for a large memory card. I have two responses to that. One is that memory cards have gotten bigger and cheaper and it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Buy a 2Gig SD card and you should be set. The other is this: You can take your pictures in 10 Megapixel mode, and then change them to lower resolution if you deem them unworthy of so much memory card space. Then just delete the 10M versions of the same pictures.



And of course the massive screen makes looking at your shots, or just playing around with it, all the more enjoyable.



A few other interesting perks: a nice slideshow feature, a calendar that shows a picture from each day you used the camera, movie editing, and a voice recorder function!



Perhaps most important, though, are two things--a battery with stamina (think Energizer bunny on viagara) and beautiful pictures that still look great even after you zoom and crop them, provided you are using 10 Megapixel mode. I am a happy camper.

Although i have not yet used ALL of the capabilities of this little powerhouse, what i have used, so far, have met my ideals perfectly. I rersearched long and hard to find the specs i wanted and here came along a new camera that surpassed my dreams and really works. I've given it a lot of exercise (about 1,000 photos so far) and cannot get over the long battery life. I bought both a one and a two gig CD card and combined about 200 photos and more than 40 minutes of video on the 2; who could ask for more? By the way, the sound quality in video mode was excellent and I was shooting long distance on 3X zoom to a fairly dark stage. Although the video resolution was not very good compared with it in good light, details were still visible and i can hear the song lyrics clearly. My best friend, with his $1,400 SLR (weighing 4 lbs or more) was so envious 'cause his video has no sound capability. I have had no need for service or even operations questions so i cannot really evaluate Casio's support but i've owned Casio stuff before and never had a complaint. Hide Full Review

I moved to Casio from a Sony with 5.1 megapixels and initially I was a bit septical. This with 10.1 megapixels is a Great camera, great pictures and great handling. The only gripe I have is not having a camera case and the software to delete pictures from camera after copying to computer takes ages.However, manual delete works fine. Otherwise it is fantastic.
