Desktops : Dell Dimension B110 (DB110L1)

Dell offered a special for this computer with a free 15 inch monitor and free shipping, and it is probably the best computer purchase I've made thus far. The Celeron D seems just as capable as my other computer's 3GHz P4 HT. I use it as a second computer for semi-professional audio editing and am very surpised how capable it is for performing such advanced audio tasks, especially since I need to have at least 6 or 7 windows open at one time. Also, this tower is virtually silent when its on...no fan or hard drive noise can be heard. For basic home computing, I cant imagine anyone needing anything more than what this offers, especially if you can get it with the free LCD flat-panel monitor. In addition to the stnadard hookups, it has 6 USB 2.0 ports which is great. There's not a Memory Card reader but thats no big deal to me. I use USB flash drives anyways. My only complaints are with upgradeability, which are minor. This PC is VERY upgradeable (has 4 open PCI slots), but I would have liked to have a second bay for an additional hard drive. There is more than ample space inside the unit to add one, but you'd have to buy the bay separate. Also, when the unit ships both of the RAM slots are occupied, so your 512 MB of RAM comes from 2 X 256. No big deal, but I was hoping to get a 512 MB card to upgrade to 1GB, now i'd have to buy a 1GB card which is more expensive. But overall, this is a fantastic value for $399 with the monitor. If you want a game for playing modern day games this is not the computer, unless you upgrade.
As an owner of a a B110, most modern day games wont even support 256bm ram. I've recently bought a "Powercolor PCI Radeon Hd" graphics card and upgraded to 2GB of ram. Which is another thing, the maximum amount of RAM supported is only 2GB.

With the Dell just out of warranty @ 14 months of use, the bottom feeder 15" LCD monitor has the continual "auto adjust" feature that activates at least 5 or 6 times during boot up. Now I have the "Loading PBR for descriptor 2....done" error and wont boot up at all. Do a search for both of these problems with and you will get a days worth of reading. What can I say..it was CHEAP at $299 BUT dontcha think it should last more than a year...I have a 200mghz 10 yr old Packard Bell that still works. we bought this pc for christmas and pretty much since day 1 its been a nightmare. the hard drive is messed up and does what it wants when nit wants. it locks us out of documents for no apparent reason. the cd writer broke the 1t time we tried to use it and has been replaced by dell and still has issues. its locked us out of mcafee security center and will not alloww updates. dell customer service has been horrible and we have spent as long as 5 hours trying to get through to a human being only to get cut off. we are still in the process of trying to get dell to work with us on this issue with little cooperation on dells part. i would not recommend this machine to anyone.
