Laptops : Dell Inspiron 8600

I have had an ordeal with this system. Though now it works well and is quite a robust computer.

First I had an issue with the power cord. It kept getting fried. Finally they made me send the whole system back and they replaced the motherboards. A royal nightmare.

My worst memories of this traumatic experience was the
customer service in India, and Bangladsh. People with names like Jason, Michael, Travis Amber and Pam (of course these are fake names. Why not use your real names?).
You can't understand them, nor can they understand you.
I kept demanding to speak to someone in Austin, Texas (the Dell Headquarters) but they kept say "No"! Anyway it takes hours of your time to wait on hold then finally talk to someone. It is a bad business decision to outsource your customer service jobs to India. Any company who allows its customers to be abused and misused by the cheap and ineffective labor overseas, is obviously a company that does not care about their customers.

So in the end, I do like the computer, but I will never buy another Dell. Not until all the Customer service jobs are brought back to America, and the Dell Corporation realizes that the Customer is the most important person on earth. Hide Full Review

After 1/2 an hour on the telephone from recording to recording machines, I got a person in India.. I could hardly understand him and kept asking the same question over and over again !!
Finally , we were able to converse some how, but it took me an average of one hour to get back to the same point I started .
All I wanted to know was the delay on the rebates, which I don't recommend it at all .

Just bought my Dell 8600 laptop about 3 months ago. So far so good. It runs great. The keyboard has an excellant feel to it. Keys do not stick or anything. Dell Support has a lot to be desired though. Great computer overall. Hide Full Review

An exceptional laptop, with plenty of memory, a beautiful widescreen for watching DVD's, and a user friendly WIFI setup. My only problem is with the battery saving program that sometimes locks up computer if you leave it unattended for more than a minute in MAX battery mode. I have to disconnect the battery to get it to unlock. Overall, a very nice laptop!! Hide Full Review

Getting new batteries and charger units was hellish. They don't speak english, sent the wrong charger (twice!) and sent wrong battery replacements (three times!)

Do your self a favor. Never buy a Dell again. I'm using one now. It has lasted for a long while, but if you have problems, you'd be better off to buy a different computer. It's not worth the trouble. Maybe that's why Dell has defaulted to Walmart: They can't sell them themselves anymore, and the general public is too naieve to know about the importance of native english support.

Unless you plan to moving to India, give it up Dell. My next computer is NOT going to be a Dell. Hide Full Review
