Printers : HP LaserJet 3330 mfp

We have and have had several HP printers and this is the first to fail...
HP support could not resolve the problems with the repair facility and pronounced it DOA....
Very dissapointed with this expensive purchase. Would recommend an individual HP printer and a seperate copier.... Hide Full Review

I bought the original unit almost two years ago.
Just before (2 weeks before) my warranty expired, the original unit's scanner head kept jittering gack an forth. This would go on about 6-8 times a day for 30mins each time. During this time I was not able to use any of its functions. I contacted HP and was sent a refurb unit (w/ a 3 or 6 month warranty) as a replacement. ( I had to use the original for another 3 days. )

Now less than a year later, I'm encountering the SAME PROBLEM WITH THE REPLACEMENT UNIT.

I'm a small business owner, recieving/sending 10 faxes daily, printing/coping about 30 pages per day.

I read the other reviews and felt I had to put in some positive comments about this machine. I purchased my 3330 two years ago for a small 2 person construction office. At the time, I had no idea that we would rapidly grow to 8 people, or that the machine would get the kind of usage it has. After 2 years, my machine is still going strong.

Usage: I print about 2500 - 3000 pages a month

I have used all of its features including scanning a color document and printing it to my HP color inkjet also connected to my PC. It handles that beautifully. The PC software used for programming the fax speed dial is infinitely better than fax machines that have to be programmed from a panel with multi-use buttons. Changing speed dial numbers is very easy. I would like to have more than 10 speed dial buttons, but considering the multi-use design, they kept the front panel clean, and 275 speed dial slots is more than I would ever want to use.

I have had occasions when I wanted to make multiple copies of a document that is over 20 pages long and ran out of memory in unit. I am working off of whatever the standard memory is and I don't know if it is upgradable or not. If you regularly deal with multiple copies of large stacks of documents, that could be a problem.

The only technical issue I have with it now is that the top paper feeder/scanner has a tendency to draw in more than one page at a time now and I have to monitor the machine to make sure it doesn't. However, that is recent problem and might even be repairable if I wanted to take the trouble.

This is probably not the cheapest laser multi-use to operate, but then none of HP's equipment is cheap to operate. The reason I buy HP is because the equipment works. I liked this unit so well, that when we needed something in another office and this went on sale at Staples, I bought another one.

Our all-in-one was purchased for a self-storage office and performed admirably for a little over 2 years. Then the gray hairs showed up. Little things, like an occasional squeak. Then, the big problem came. The scanner bulb tried to warm up one day, and the machine locked up. Power cycling the machine fixed it, but only for a little while. This has become a 4-times-a-day occurance. I don't have time to wait while it warms up from the power cycle every time. This is an apparent design flaw from HP. Every time you make a copy, the scanner bulb is programmed to stay on for 12 hours. And a repair costs just a little less than a new machine. I have been happy with several other HP printers and was thrilled to save some deskspace when the HP 3330 mfp came out by combining my copier and fax into one. I figured the scanning function was a bonus.
Unfortunately, I've been quite disappointed by the HP 3330 mfp:
1) the copier does not copy full width, but leaves between 1/4" and 1/2" on each side uncopied. That's not good enough when I need to be able to read what's in the margins after I copied something.
2) the scanner's quality was poor. When scanning in the same shade of color, the color on the screen was no longer the same....
3) I share a phone line for my home and fax. The idea is that the answering machine picks up all calls, and when it's a fax, the 3330 mfp recognizes this and picks up. Usually that's how it actually works out (that's good), but sometimes the 3330mfp just ignores the fax. I always wonder what opportunities I missed out on when I have a series of beeps on my answering machine. Hide Full Review
