Digital Cameras : HP PhotoSmart M22

For the money this is a camera you will love. it is easy to use and takes great pictures. the only thing i didnt like was that when i got it home to use. i found out it only holds 12 pictures in the internal memory but after i purchaced a 250 mb SD memory card I have room for 350 pictures and about 25 minuits of filming space for the built in video recorder. purchased this camera off walmart.com.....great deal!.....you must purchase NIMH batteries because normal alkaline batteries will only last for about 36 shots w/flash...i tested it....after i popped in the NIMH 2500 mAh batteries and i was able to shoot over 150 shots!!!! thats about 5 times more battery life....and i got this nifty 512 MB SD card for about $28 from buy.com....everything works great....cant ask for more...extremely satisfied Hide Full Review

I got this camera from a friend of mine who was totally disgusted with it. The only 90 day-warranty has expired and the camera will not turn on using the lens slide cover. The problem is that there is a small- less than 1 cm rectangular magnet- embeded in the slide cover just to the right side of the "HP" logo and above the "M22" marking, the magnet activates a metallic reed switch on the circuit board when the slide is move to the right to "turn on" the camera and take pictures also exposing the lens. When the slide is moved to the left, the reed switch contacts are off. In my case I replaced the magnet with a larger size and this fixed the no power problem. Second problem is "Battery Low" warning even on a fully charged NiMh batteries shows up. Needs a fix for this. Hide Full Review

I bought this camera when on vacation in Florida. It worked great for a few years, always took nice snap shots. Unfortunately the shutter lag on this camera makes it near impossible to take shots you only have a second to take. After about 2 years of use it randomly stopped working on me. I tried all the trouble shooting that was listed, check the magnetic switch, non of the above.

So it leaves me to the conclusion if you want a fairly cheap easy digital camera, it's not a bad option. But its not top of the line obviously, and its built pretty cheaply so you have to be careful with it.

I don't regret the purchase, and am buying another HP digital cam to replace it that is a few models up, and a few years newer, Hide Full Review
