Scanners : HP ScanJet 4670

i bought the stylish Scanjet 4670 last monday and came to my house and put it beside my laptop.. i conected and install it scanes some pages and everithing looked nice but it came the adapter for the external Transparency Material Adapter, and what a shock lines and lines all over the picture.. i tried with another picture and another and always the same lines... i call HP Costumer Attention and nothing they told me to go and change the scanjet because it was wrong.. i ran to de store the next day and change the scanner.. in the store this HP guy conected the scanjet and again the lines with his transparency so it wa no doubt it was wrong.. and i got a new one.. i came home and open it conected and again the lines... i call again HP and they where astonished thet 2 of their scanjets do the same mistake.. again i went to the store but this time i told the guy to check it before i take it again and again the lines where there.. so 3 in a row it's too much.. so just buy it if you don't need to scan any Transparency material... In spite of some of the reviews I have read online, we purchased the HP 4670 for use in our home/business. We purchased it from NewEgg.com at a great price, and it arrived in the original retail box with no damage, and three days early, thanks to FedEx Express Saver shipping. We immediately opened it, fearing the worst, as described in some of the DOA reports we read. However, after following the HP Quick Start poster, we were scanning photos in 10 minutes. The HP 4670 is remarkably quiet, and did a very good scan of a professional photo at its default 200 dpi. We tried enlargement and manipulation of a 1200 dpi scan, and we are well pleased. We don't expect a $160 scanner to perform the same as a $500 unit, so we are not disappointed. We agree that the HP packaged software is barebones, but it loaded into Windows XP Professional without a hiccup, and meshes nicely with our HP Photosmart 7960 printer which uses the same basic software. The HP 4670 looks cool, takes much less desktop space and is very flexible. I just got off the phone with HP for the third time due to my HP Scanjet 4670 breaking for the fourth time. First one broke on 6/9/04 after having purchased it in January of 2004. The service was very helpful, overnighted me a replacement free of charge and included a return label for the faulty product.
Second time I called HP was on 6/29/04, same thing happened, in the midst of scanning the scanner just quits and gets stuck about a third of the way before reaching it's home position and the product is hot to the touch right at the buttons on the scanner itself. This time had to pay for the overnight shipment, $20 to be exact, but they still put in a pre-paid return label.

Well, just got off the phone with them again on 8/16/04, same exact thing, in the midst of scanning the scanner just quits, being stuck before it reaches its "home". Now however they are telling me that the product is on a 10 day back log and they won't even be able to send it to me before the end of the month. This is a vital product for my needs, we scan blue prints into the system to be able to create bids and everything else.

So, I think the concept of having a freestanding product without a lid is awesome, especially for scanning larger objects like blue prints and then having them in a 8.5x11 format, however the product seems quite faulty and of course I can't get HP to tell me what the issue might be. There's no mishandling of the product in any way and they know that since they have received the returned items.
