Home Video : Humax TiVo DVR DRT-800

I bought this unit last week, after shopping around and comparing products for a month. This thing is awesome. Out of all of the similar products that I tested and researched, the Humax unit is far ahead of the competition. My 4 year old could have installed it, I had one small issue which was my fault, and tech support was quick, efficient, and courteous. It burns dvds extremely fast and with great quality. It also took me from 4 remotes down to 1. If you are thinking about getting a tivo unit even if u don't want the dvd burner, get this one. You'll love it. Hide Full Review

I understand there are defective products every now and then but I have had this unit for just under 8 months and I'm waiting for Humax to send out my fourth unit. My original unit had problems with the remote function, first they tried replaceing the remote then the unit. Next one they sent wasn't even a DRT800 they tried to replace it with a DRT400 and then claimed that was what I had. Now the third one is not even usable as it can't seem to update with TIVO, it lasted less than 30 days. According to Humax customer service problems with the DRT series units are "very rare" however there seems to be enough refurbished units floating around that even TIVO is selling the refurbished DRT400 for $99 on their web-site. It is nice to have a DVR that I can also burn DVD's from but if it doesn't work then it's just a waste of time and money. Buy another brand! Hide Full Review
