HDTV & Televisions : JVC HD-56G786

Not much to read on these (HD-56G786) as far as reviews yet, so maybe this will help anyone looking at this model. I've been in the electronics field for many years and have seen new technologies come & go, but was willing to give this one a chance. My wife & I love this TV's performance vs cost, and it's great so far.....

The downside is that there is a greater risk with new technologies experiencing problems (D-ILA), so get an extended warranty for as long as you can, but you should be doing that anyway with a major purchase like this.

We bought a new 50" Hitachi (HD50V715) in July 2005 for $3000 that has been in the warranty repair shop for almost a month. We had to cycle it on/off 2-3 times to get it to come on once. So far the repair shop doesn't have a clue why, but they're still throwing new parts at it hoping to get lucky.Hitachi and JVC are well-known good names in the A/V field, so go figure.

At least the JVC turns on & off as it should. I recommend it, it was nearly $1000 cheaper and 6" bigger, and the picture quality & sound were equal to any we had looked at anywhere!The Samsung looked great too, but was still $400 more + $300 for the stand. Hide Full Review

I bought this tv and I was told that I should buy a extended warranty. I figured why should I. It't brand new and should last until I want to upgrade. It had a nice picture and nice features. But after two months the speaker blew out. I emailed them and a week later I got my reply and I contacted the service people. It took them a week to come out. Then they had to order parts. A month later they came back and he needed a sound card also besides a speaker. Another month the parts are defective. So they told me to go to another dealer and they took my tv to their shop. Guess what the same thing is going on now. I have had this tv for 6 months and used it for 2. It cost 2800 dollars and JVC does not care! I wasted 4 months of money on cable. JVC never emailed me back when I suggested legal action. So I called them and they told me a supervisor would call me back. A week later not one person has called me. Buy Sony or hell the cheapest damn thing you can the support would probably be better than this. I will never buy JVC again. Once I get a few dollars I am hiring a lawyer and getting my money back. You should not getting miserable service for not buying the warranty and the warranty you get with it should be real! They shouldn't screw around with you until it expires! Hide Full Review

I've had this television for about 2 months now and I'm totally happy with my purchase. The real plus is when you use it with the HD channels. That's a BIG plus with this t.v. The picture clarity and colors are GREAT. Some of my regular (analog) channels leave somethings to desire but they're not that bad either. I've had friends over and they love it. Hook up a playstaion 3 to this baby and you're set. Overall I give this T.V. a 2 thumbs up. Hide Full Review
