Digital Cameras : Kodak EasyShare DX7630

This is my first 'real' camera and I did almost a huge research before buying this. The reason for writing this revew was that this being a new camera, there were not many reviews on this product. I was almost close to buying the DX4530 but when the DX7630 was introduced, I could not resist buying this and me being a person who regards 'value for money', I have absolutely no regrets on buying this camera.

This review is from a novice and please correct me if my review is wrong. The camera is bulky, well u can judge that from the pictures and it does not fit into ur jean pocket...
:(, but heck who cares, well for an advanced camera, it is still small. At 6.1 MP resolution is very good, and I could not find any purple fringing or chromatic abberation :P on the pictures. The battery is very good and just keeps on going. The bundled charger and battery saves ur money on buying batteries and chargers. The lens is professional and looks awesome, and so are the pics it records. The zoom is also good and infact the digital zoom tells you where to stop zoomimg further so that the quality is not spoilt. As soon as the button is pressed halfway, it tells you on the screen whats focussed and if ur focussing is correct, it gives a green go ahead and captures the pic when the button is pushed further in. Well, now on to the bad part, inspite of innumerable complains on the lens cap in the DX 4530 kodak has done little to set that right, The lens cap looks shi**y and its irritating when it hangs and distracts a lot. Also the most stupid thing is that when you switch on the camera for reviewing, the lens extends, even if the lens cap is on, pushing the lens cap forcing it outside. Well apart from these 2 disadvantages, it is a very good camera for the price I paid for. I paid 375euros for the cam and 20euros :O for shipping. Well but it came safe, I bought it from TECHNIKdirekt.de.(My first purchase on the net and I was nervous.) The camera was Made in China...

Conclusion: Well this review was just a preview of the camera, of what I had explored in the past 2 weeks. BTW, there are so many features that can be set manually and there are also loads if inbuilt settings which u can use rightaway. Well I plan to use them in future. You can also attach external lens to this camera (like the huge one pro guys use...) You just keep on discovering something new everday. :)) Finally, it is worth the money you pay!

Well got my camera last week. First camera I have ever had other than a disposible. All I have done is take pictures. I love the camera! The screen is larger than most digital cameras I have seen. The camera has 22 total shooting modes. This next feature I couldnt believe-- Digital video and audio capture; records clips continuous to memory capacity or in different set time lengths, the audio and video is clear and crisp! The share button is a great feature also,just by pressing the button you can send it by email to a friend, print the picture(s), or add the picture to your favorites. **Make sure you get the printer for the camera! I wasn't sure I wanted the printer because I didnt want to spend an extra $120, it was probally the best purchase I've ever made. The printer prints exceptional photos! It is a great extra to have with this camera or any of the Kodak easyshare cameras. Hide Full Review

I bought this camera several weeks ago from Dell.com. After a lot of research this was my choice and I wasn't dissappointed. Just charge up the battery and you are ready to go. I didn't use the provided software because I have a photo editor so I don't know how good it is.
The camera comes with an internal 32mb memory and at 6.1 megapixels you get about 15 pictures, not nearly enough. I went to E-Bay and got a 256mb card for $37.00 including shipping. I get about 130 pictures on it.

The 2.2" LCD is large and allows you to zoom in while on the review mode, fun to play with but otherwise I haven't found a need for it. In bright sunlight the screen was a bit difficult to see.

The mode dial on the back allows you to select different scenes, which makes it almost fool proof. If you are on the beach use the beach scene. There is a snow, party, action, fireworks, closeup, portrait and many others. If that isn't enough you can set everything in the custom mode. Wow!!

The camera comes with a rechargeable li-lon battery and charger. It takes about 3 hours to fully charge an empty battery. The battery can take about 180-225 pictures before needing to be recharged, not bad.

The DX7630 offers a video mode, on an empty 256mb card I can get about 25 minutes of video. The zoom does not work during video mode and the play back feature is of low quality but I own a video camera so this is not a big deal for me or a selling point.

Two minor problems I have found are:

1- The lens cap must be removed before you turn on the camera or else it will not turn on. You must then turn the mode dial to off and back on again, not a big deal.

2- The date and time must be reset if you leave the battery out for any length of time. I like to recharge the battery at night so before I go to sleep I place the battery in the charger and in the morning I am ready to go. But before I take any pictures I must reset the date and time. Again not a big deal.

The Kodak DX7630 is more camera then most people will need. 6.1 megapixels will keep you ahead of the curve for several years. My first digital was the DX3600. Loved it. Decided to upgrade and got the DX6440. Great machine but was stolen in Barcelona. Upon return, found the new DX7630. Like Kodak picture and manufacturing quality, priced right, and good features. Love the large viewing screen. Great buy. 6000 dock works great (bought separately). Owner's Manual doesn't say that you have to be in Video mode to set or change picture quality. If you don't know that, you'd never find it. You can't change from 6mp's to 3mp's unless in video mode. Logic says you should be able to do it in any mode. Also, I miss the self timer button on the camera. Now its in set up. Also manual doesn't tell user how to shoot with the self timer. Other camera manuals do. Suspect oversight. Batteries are great but only made by Kodak and cost $20-$29 depending on the power (only two choices of power and rechargables only-that's ok). Great camera. The lens popps out and pops the cover off when reviewing photos though. There is a way around the lens popping out i found with a little navigation. Slide the wheel to favorites, then simply push the review button to access your photos saved to your memory card! No more annoying cap popping off! Hide Full Review
