PDAs : Palm Tungsten T

When this fella came out I didnt dare to look at it. Now Palm have seen the light and dropped the price so that mere mortals can afford it.

If you are like me, you get some satisfaction on working with something that feels at least as reliable and successful as you aspire to be. When I first got hold of the Tungsten, the ultimate gadget, I was pleased by its chunky, solid, reliable feel. Especially as another well known manufacturers PDA had recently let me down quite badly after 3 months.

After nearly 3 months of use without 1 glitch this unit is proving to be the best purchase I have made in some time.

The software that comes with the unit is basically what youd expect from Palm. The software that it will run is AWESOME. Dont worry about OS5 the new operating system. It WILL run all the previous Palm software with a few insignificant exceptions.

I didnt bank on getting a high quality MP3 player, but I got one.

I didnt expect 1 hour of high quality video (with 256MB card) but I got it.

I didnt expect a display which is equally readable in bright sunlight as a dark room, but etc. etc.

And guess what? The Bluetooth works.

Let me tell you I originally bought a Palm device as a replacement for a Windows driven laptop. And when it failed after 3 months I thought, maybe even I had made a mistake. Tungsten has reassured me. The Palm user community are raving over it and supporting technically wherever and whenever necessary. And now I have a reliable laptop in my pocket.

Heres a minor gripe: Palm? Please supply a decent case with the unit. (By the way, the choice of third party cases is enormous).

While the screen is the most beautiful screen Ihave ever seen on a a PDA, I returned my Tungsten T immediately as the sliding mechanism to open and close the unit is very stiff and hard to use. In addition the unit contains a plastic cover that has to be snapped off each time you want to write something. I hated returning the unit because that is one gorgeous screen, but its just not practical for everyday use. As for Palm support, I still havent gotten through. Hide Full Review

The Tungsten T is soo cool, with its voice memos and blue-tooth technology which enables you to connect wireless to your computer! And with and SD slot, the potential is virtually unlimited, as many useful applications can be downloaded or ordered from the internet! Hide Full Review

After about 45 days of use, my screen started flickering. It had to be related to the slide mechanism because I could put a slight twisting pressure on the mechanism and the flickering would stop. Palm replaced this unit with another new one and I still have the same problem. I have never dropped either unit so I am not sure why this is happening. It also does not happen all the time, just occasionally. Other than that I do like the features and use my Tungsten T daily for work. Hide Full Review
