HDTV & Televisions : Panasonic PT-40LC12

The picture is pretty nice and clear except colors: these are worse compare to most competitors. Good TV to watch indoor shows but not movies. This Panasonic beats all other rear projectors in field-of-view angle, widest on market! Brightness is pretty good but you have to wait about 5 minutes untill it reaches normal level after turn the TV on. The quality of sound/speakers the same as small 20-inches TV, poor sound.
DVD and digital cable box: no problem, nice picture. About VCR: the image (using Hi-Fi stereo VCR and two-months old videotape) is badly destorted in one-inch-wide area along top edge of TV screen.
Don't forget about projection lamp: the max. life time accordingly users manual is 3,000-5,000 hours (or 1-2 years): so, you have to spend $300+ to reaplace it after a while (check the lamp price on Yahoo, part# TY-LA1500).
Finally I have returned this TV back to store. Instead, I'm going to buy Sony KV34HS510 34" widescreen classic-tube model. Hide Full Review

I originally purchased this TV for about $2400 a couple of years ago. I've been happy with it until last week when all of a sudden the tv just died. I don't even think it's the projection lamp as there is no sound, and I assume that if the projection lamp died then I would have sound, just no picture. Considering how much this thing cost, I am very unhappy. It is very unlikely that Panasonic will ever get another dime from me again.
Even if it was just the projection lamp that died, I still find that unacceptable, as there is no reason why anyone should have to pay $300 every couple of years in order to replace a component. Whatever happend to the days when a tv set would work for 10 or 20 years??? Hide Full Review
