HDTV & Televisions : Pioneer PDP-5071HD

overall i am extremely pleased with my purchase. compared to the other plasmas out there the varying colors, hues make such a difference. this particular plasma captures the dark areas of the picture quite well in spite of well sunlit areas regardless of drapery or not. once figure out how to use controls easy to use. biggest complaint so far is not knowing how to use every feature and getting my bang out my buck but that's my problem. i think if you have the $ then it's definitely worth the every penny. if you're going to spend on a plasma why not spend on the best quality can buy? Spent weeks doing my research with Pioneer - JVC - Pnasonic constantly found to be the best Plasma. Decided on the Pioneer 5070 - went to Best Buy to view more and found the 5071 open box, calibrated and connected to its stand - got it cheaper than the best internet price. Hardest decision was yes/no to the 4 year BB warranty for $300 ....easy setup, great sound too! Don't know how big a difference from the 5070 though which came out last July....Sony Bravia looked like the best LCD but too pricey - 42" cost as much as this 50" Hide Full Review

I have researched and looked at many 50 inch plasmas and this model is by far the most impressive. The clarity and brightness are unmatched by Sony, Hitachi, LG, or Panasonic. You'll like everything from the slick black encasing to the 2 HDMI slots to the user friendly interface. Hide Full Review

got this tv in sept. (the 5071 is a best buy exclusive with an extra mini remote, otherwise identical). I loved it since then and still love it, i had to break it in for 200 or so hours with low contrast and low brights but now that i prolly have close to 1000 hours, i bumped up the contrast and tweaked it so that the HD and component devices hooked up to it look great. My kids even play the xbox on it thru the vga input and it looks awesome. Hide Full Review

I researched and thought I was getting the best TV on the market. My friends have Pioneer TVs and they have not had any problems. Mine however has had problems from the beginning. We would be watching TV and the set would turn itself off. When I started it back up it would say "warming up ...". The blue "on" light would flash and I could not do anything with the TV until I unplugged it and plugged it back in. I thought maybe it was because we were using an antennae. Then the TV got to the point where I could not get it back on again. We contacted Best Buy and they had someone come out to the house after a week (no TV). The people showed up and said they had to order a part. A month later they showed up with a part. They put the new part in and then said the part was defective (found out later it was a power supply). They took out TV away for 2 week (now it is 2 months later) and they returned it today (and did not give me back my remote so I cannot get into the menu). Then the TV switch stopped working, I had to unplug and plug the TV to get it to work. Everytime the switch is pushed I have to go through this. I wanted to post this so that people are aware that these (or maybe just mine) have problems (mine still does not work and I am going to ask Pioneer for a replacement).
