Purchased 2-1-07 from Walmart for $68.
I wanted to experiment with my new 50" plasma tv.
My old dvd player had 6year old technology, no HDMI or upconverversion.
The RCA DVD player comes with an HDMI cord and a 3in1 cable.
I wanted in particular to use the HDMI hookup to my new plasma to see if the upconversion to 720P and 1080i feature made a visible difference compared to the standard 480i. It does! The picture quality is greatly improved and the audio 5.1 sounded very good.
The HDMI feature (has to be turned on) inside the onscreen menu. Trouble is I had to hookup the 3in1 cable before I could get my plasma to recognize the DVD player. There is no signal sent to plasma with only the HDMI cable hooked upwithout a selection within the HDMI menu. There is no real clear explanation of this in the minimal directions. The dirctions for use (manual) is only 4 pages with warranty and warnings taking up about a page.
I played 3 movies and a calibration disk. All played excellently! Menu changes are a little confusing but after experimentation are easily done.
The picture quality on City Slickers, Cold Mountain, and Braveheart was excellent. All colors and gray scale were accurate. Blacks and whites were full and had detail. Surround sound quality was excellent.
Overall I was amazed at the difference between my old DVD and this new unit. I wonder how much improvement, if any, there is between this RCA DVD and any other high dollar DVD.I rate this DVD player 5 out of 5. I recomend this unit. I Hide Full Review
