Cell Phones : Samsung SPH-M610

I've had the M610 since the beginning of February 07. I picked it up over the KRZR because I learned the KRZR's OS was very slow. I was looking for a phone that was small, stylish, and had great features like bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera, and multimedia playback. The M610 has all these and more so overall I've been happy with the purchase.





I only have two major complaints about the phone. One is the battery life. Its pretty low - something like 2-3 talk hours. I'm thinking about buying the extended battery so this would not be as much of a problem, but I'm worried about how much bigger the battery will be. The size of the phone is one of the best things about it. My second complaint is the outside display. It's small and sometimes doesn't display the names of people in my phone book who call. One minor complaint is that even though the phone has bluetooth and a memory card, you can't get ringers onto the phone unless you download them over the internet. they have to be a special format, so you can't just send mp3s to your phone and use them as ringers. That was a let down. The phone does play mp3s and some other formats, and comes with a stereo headset so you can listen to music, which is cool. The phone has one proprietary jack that is used to plug in the charger and headset so you can't use old samsung chargers or other headsets, and you can only plug one at a time, which is a pain.





When I got the phone it was a bit pricey but the price has since dropped. I would recommend to it others. I always get compliments on the phone when I am out.





Recommended accessories: bluetooth headset (I'm gettin the small Samsung WEP200)/ case (found a great one made by Monaco for really cheap online, its not made specifically for m610 but works perfect)/ extended battery (battery life is biggest complaint, can be fixed with this battery - not sure how much more battery life, though) Hide Full Review

The Samsung M610 is a great looking phone with plenty of features, like, 2mp camera that swivels 180 degrees, the best display sharpness and color I have ever seen, and much, much more. No problem recommending this phone to anyone, it's top notch. Hide Full Review

So i have had this phone for about 6 months now, great looking phone, easy to use, incredible screen for such a small phone. I would say that i am generally happy with my choice but there are a few things that i wish i would have researched and known before making a decision.

One being the signal. In my house i can sit on the couch and talk for a couple seconds and lose signal but i can walk 5 feet away to the computer and talk all day long if i needed to without any signal problem. Second being the battery life. I work indoors and i have noticed that if my phone has lost signal my battery life is cut down to about 4 hours of standby time. Lastly i have just got off the phone with my service provider about audio/video problems with my phone (being that i will not be able to get a full audio/video clip sent in a text message). Come to find out that this phone only supports 10 seconds worth of play back for texted media.

I like this phone alot. Aside from having to charge it often - too often - and the fact that it is very long, I think the speaker for the phone should be located somewhere on the outside it. Most of the times I carry it in my purse and can barely hear it ringing even if the volume is set to 8 (which is the loudest). My friends have cell phones with level 5 volume, same ringtones and they have no problems with volume because the speakers are on the outside. Ive had this phone for about 2 mos and I've had to switch back to my older phone. The problem is the battery life. This phone will show 2 bars on its battery life indicator and will shut itself down 15 min later when in use. I have looked for and extended battery (which needs a new cover which will have to be purchased as it will make the phone fatter) and have not been able to find one. Sprint doesn't sell one. This phone hase cut off with as little as 1.45 talk time. (I charge it nightly) Has a great camera (no flash) and a very low volume ringer, and feels very fragile. (it has a little cover over the charging socket that is held on by a thread) Overall I'm sorry I brought this. Hide Full Review
