Digital Cameras : Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 (Silver)

Overall the w100 is a winner!!! I'm a Canon 350D user and have tried the Sony N1 since my parents have it, and I must say that I would choose the W100 over it in a heartbeat. Before purchasing this cam, I tried out all the cybershot cameras, and a few canons. It took me a few hours to finally decide that the w100 is the ONE for me. These were the reasons why I chose the w100...First I needed a camera that still has a viewfinder, since I am so used to taking shots with my Digital SLR, I am already quite used to it. Also, when under bright sunlight, it is quite difficult to rely on the 2.5 inch screen when taking photos. I like the manual options that are available compared to the other Sony Cybershot point and shoot digicams that I tried. Canon might have an edge here. I rarely use the AUTO features of the W100, and sofar I am impressed with the results I've gotten with the manual features. The Macro Mode is cool, but I think the T9 and T30 has better magnifying capabilities. Battery life is pretty good. Flash power is better than the rest, although red eye is still a problem even when the red eye reduction mode is turned on. Lens is great at F2.8 Aperture, not to mention its a Carl Zeiss make. ISO at 1250 but I must say picture quality deteriorates at this range, noise is too visible here. Realistically it is only at ISO 800 wherein the noise is not too noticeable. Pound for pound it's a good Low light Camera. This is where the w100 shines, it is priced lower compared to the T30 (7.1 megapixel) and the N1 (8.1 megapixel) cybershot counterparts. I bought this camera, and it was my first digital camera. It was great, with 8.0 mega pixels the image quality were great, great quality everything was fine. Until one day turned on my camera, attempting to take a picture. The screen went black and read "Access". The lens zoomed in and out repeatedly, until after 2 min, the screen read "turn off and on again" I tried it, but the same problem occured. I tried to return it, but there was nobody to say what the problem was and I had not bought the warrenty.I had never dropped or abused the camera. I am currently waiting to replace my camera...I misght even buy the same one, it was so good, i just wish I had paid an extra 40 $ for the warrenty. Hide Full Review

I bought this camera a few weeks ago and have taken in access of 300 pics. The image quality is superior to even the two 35 mm SLR that I own. I found quickly that this camera is extremely easy to use, that is: fast out of the pocket, controls at the finger tips, ease of use, no worries about image stability, and no worries about light. I did notice a little red eye with some of the pics, especially in extreme low light conditions but nothing that my photo software could not fix. I also noticed that the shutter does lag a bit but not nearly as much as some of the Cannons I have tried. Because the camera is so small and light I found myself being extra careful of handling or even dropping. But here is where I put it to the true test at my expense and to eliminate my fear of mishandling. I dropped it on purpose from a height of 4 feet onto a double layered thin blanket I laid on the floor and it did not affect it in any way. Still works fantastic. Cannot say enough about this little gem. Highly recommend! I have not had to call tech support so I cannot give any kind of comment. Hide Full Review

- better than awarded Cyber-Shot W7, why? it's smaller, has more memory

- 8.1 MP resolution (if it's too much you can always use it as a zoom feature)

- compact (pocket-size for every day carry but not to small to drop or loose)

- semi-manual (want to learn about exposure?).

- nice battery life.

- 64 Mb internal memory

- 6 m. flash range

- hight sensivity (ISO) for low light pictures (cityscapes, no-flash pics)

- price



CONS:

I was on sites reviewing pictures for a High Quality display, print, view and store pictures for the future. 4 Meg's now to low in quality for me that I have. I want that fine detail.

So I picked went to buy a pick of 2 of them on line then choose the one I like. I reviewed pictures and the best over all that I reviewed all week searching. $400.00 dollars they cost. Too much!

I ended up with this camera Sony DSC-W100 at a lower cost 8.1 Meg's I remembered the Sony's were good in the reviews for picture detail.

When I reviewed this camera comparing the pictures with the ones I was going to buy. This is way better in quality, detail and color pictures then the ones I was reviewing. You can see things the ones was not showing. Very happy with this camera and size. Its very fast to. Review the pictures see for yourself!
