Home Audio & Speakers : Sony STR-DE845

I purchased the DE845 almost 2 years ago after graduating high school, and I have been overly contented since the day I hooked it up. Although the LCD remote is a bit superficial and cumbersome at times, this minor flaw is easily overlooked once you pump up the volume. It has readily accepted everything I have thrown at it, and willingly reproduces distortion free music well past half volume. Fortunately I have the speakers to handle the amount of power the DE845 can blast out. For a college student on a budget, this is the perfect solution.

I just got this receiver and the sound is outstanding. I was trying to decide between this one and the Yamaha 5250. The 5250 is 6 inches deeper and wouldnt fit in my entertainment center. I liked the sound quality through the Sony more than the Yamaha anyway. I would highly recommend this receiver to anyone. Hide Full Review

well...not quite, but when the walls start shaking because of a bomb explosion or an asteroid shower scene (Armageddon flick) it sure comes close to it. I just got this STR-DE845 model with a Sony DVPS330 and they work great together. The sound is fantastic and the options are plenty. I have it hooked to a set of JBL speakers SCS series (http://www.jbl.com/home/jbl_html/productlist.asp?SerId=SCS&CatId=MMS&CatId2=CCS) (chipos) for total digital sound ("theater surround:A" option) and they\'re good enough to make your jaw drop way below your waist belt. The controls are fairly intuitive and easy to use. If you have a 27" SonyTV or better with at least one s-video hookup in it you\'re all set. Make sure you get a Digital Fiber Optic MonsterCabel to hook up the receiver to your DVD for sound. That\'s the best way to go (unless, of course your DVD has a decoder too). Ƞ This is the best system I found for my money, I couldn\'t find any receiver that will offer as much on a well engineered unit as this Sony did. The Yamaha HTR 5250 comes close but it\'s pricier. I got this reciever as a Christmas gift and man, the other reviews aren\'t kiding when they say that this model is the best on the market (well, for the price of course). I STRONGLY recomend getting this model. I know a great deal about A/V equipment, and this reciever is the tops. I don\'t want to get technical for those of you who are looking for equipment and don\'t know what certain things mean, but seriously GET THIS RECIEVER! It\'s an awesome deal and will sound wonderful with Sony speakers and a Sony DVD player.
