HDTV & Televisions : Toshiba 56HM66

I purchased this TV on black Friday at an unbelieveable price of $1199 and I got the full 4 year in-home Best Buy warrantee with first bulb replacement included for only $249 more!!! At this price I couldn't be more happy with the purchase. Even at $700 off I refused to comprimise on picture quality, as I have been in the large screen HD TV market for some time, just waiting for that perfect TV for the right price. Boy did I find it! When doing side by side comparisons the only HD TV's that compared in picture quality were the Samsung DLP, the Sony LCoS, and the high end JVC maybe...of course the large screen Plasma's and new Sharp Aquos LCD also just matched the picture quality at about 4 times the cost. So at the price point that I paid, nothing even comes close; for that matter at any price point I couldn't find a TV that looks even incrimentally better whatsoever with 480p and 720p signal inputs (which is the only two that I wiil be using anyway). After looking at (and now owning) Toshiba's line of DLP TV's, the Samsung and Sony high end TV's really start to seem just a tade overpriced... Hide Full Review

I purchased a Toshiba DLP television recently. Before 1 1/2 months old, it just stopped working. Called Toshiba, and they directed me to 3 service centers. First one never answered the phone. Second one said they would call back within an hour... I called back a couple hours later and they said they were swamped and would call me back. Never heard from them again. Third one said Toshiba did not authorize them for home service. So now I'm stuck with a $1500 paperweight, until they will authorize the retailer I bought it from to service it.

So after talking with the tech at the retailer, he was sure it was the lamp. It took me 2 hours to get toshiba to send me a lamp replacement(they kept on flat out refusing until they called the tech themselves), which ended up not even fixing it.

Now, it could be weeks before I get a working television(guaranteed another week at the very earliest), it's already been a week. I am just in shock that I spend that kind of money on something, it breaks this soon, and they could care less if or how long I am without a television. They will not budge on trying to compromise to make me even somewhat satisfied. It's just 'sorry, company policy' over and over and over.

I have always owned toshiba tv's, but never had a problem with one. Their level of customer service just plain stinks. I truely can't believe it, I've dealt with microsoft for xbox 360 problems, and I thought that was bad. I've dealt with Nintendo, there's a company that knows customer service. This is just plain frustration and nothing else. With a tv that new, they should be letting me take it back to the retailer for a new set. If it wasn't for a 30% restocking fee the tv would be returned now.

Bottom line, if you have any problems with a toshiba product be prepared to be without it for a long time and get no satisfaction at all. And now I will worry that my tv is a 'lemon' and even after I get through this mess it will just happen again in a couple months to go through again?? Hide Full Review

Have had a great picture. Love the set - when it is working.

Today, the second blown bulb in less than 10 months.

The 1st was replaced under warrenty. I expect the second will too.

However, I am very concerned that in less than 6 months, after the 1 year warrenty on the bulbs expires, I will again have to replace the bulb at market price.

This bulb was supposed to last for years. I don't ever expect to buy another Toshiba....and this from someone with 3 prior Toshiba standard analog TVs Hide Full Review

I feel this was a good bargin. 999.99 plus tax at Best Buy.The TV was delivered before I was able to get the Direct TV updated to HD and 5LN multi disk. I had the standard disk already in use for my older TV. So the pic quality was next to terrible. After the new disk, It was super quality pic. My complaint is that the Direct TV remote overides the built-in CC from Toshiba TV. and now when I mute the sound to 0, no closed captioning starts to run. It did before with old disk and I loved that feature.Also to use CC with DTV I have to go thru 5 different settings to get CC. and it won't allow me to set the font size and style, you have to use what Direct TV has preset. As I was reading in the last review, I to got the deal at 1,200.00. Also got a lg dvd up-conversion player. Picture looks great watching dvd's. I didn't get the warranty plan because I got one before on a rear projection tv and never used the warranty. The bulbs in DLP tv's are easy replaced by the consumer. (Even shown in the owner manual) And most warranty plans don't include bulb replacement. Instead of getting the warranty I suggest you put the money u would of spent on one in a banking account. And use that money on your own repair man if your t.v. breaks. Bottom line on this t.v. best value i've seen so far. I say skip the warranty but that's for u to decide. Hide Full Review
