The PureFlat high resolution picture tube of CT-36HL43 has set a new standard for high-definition (1080i/480p) displays, delivering brilliant, crystal-clear pictures on a perfectly flat screen. And with a new, enhanced progressive scan doubler, horizontal scan lines are virtually invisible, bringing the moving television image even closer in quality to a still picture.

Several other technologies similarly help elevate CT-36HL43, notably 10-bit A/D image processing, and motion adaptive 3D-Y/C comb filters. Ten-bit A/D image processing boosts conventional grayscale gradations by a factor of four, producing four times as many shades of black and white. The motion adaptive 3D-Y/C comb filter, meanwhile, simultaneously examines three successive scan lines, comparing images to accurately separate the color information from black and white. Not only does this eliminate the common problem of "hanging dots, " but it also helps eliminate the color rainbow effect in closely spaced patterns.

The new Tau PureFlat sets also add 8-bit processing to the Picture-in-Picture function, giving new luster and clarity to the previously neglected inset picture. For instance, the insert picture can be scaled in size from 1/16th to one quarter of the screen area, making it easy and enjoyable to watch two channels or sources at once, regardless of whether the second picture comes through component, composite, S-Video or RF inputs.

The new TV's technologies take full advantage of all film-based video sources. Progressive Cinema Scan (3/2 pulldown) helps compensate for artifacting that can occur when movies are converted from the film speed of 24 frames-per-second to the TV standard of 60 frames-per-second. So viewers will be treated to clear, smooth flowing images with a level of detail approaching that of the original film print. Other features found on CT-36HL43 include digital velocity scan modulation, digital horizontal edge correction, Panasonic's VIVA/BBE 3D High Definition Sound System, and a new, user friendly, visually distinctive 3D menu system.
