Question and Answers

Wildflower I want a new home audio 300.00--500.00 range .What is the best brand, make & model value for my money? - Wildflower
Best Answer: Excellent question. This is a tough price range for a good quality complete system, but definitely doable (especially on the super competitive internet market) depending what qualities and features you are looking for in an audio system. Although there are other/many choices out there, with over 20 years of real-world sound system experience (and over 10 years in the audio industry), I am confident that I can put together two specific examples for great sound for the money and keep the price within your spending criteria (one, a 2-channel stereo system, and the other, a 5.1 channel home theater system) to either make your decision simple, or at least give you a foundation to build from should you decide to go with different brands and models. And then I will provide you with websites and/or brick and mortar stores where you can find these products. - STEREO SYSTEM - AM/FM Stereo Receiver (2-channel): Teac AG-790 [$120 internet market price] CD Player (5-disc): JVC XL-FZ258BK [$110] Speakers (x2): Polk Audio R50 [$250/pr.] - HOME THEATER SYSTEM - A/V 5.1 Channel Receiver: Onkyo HT-S580 System [$250] DVD Player: Onkyo DV-SP303B Progressive Scan DVD Player [$116] DVD Player/Recorder OPTION 1: Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD Recorder [$153] DVD/VCR Player/Recorder OPTION 2: Panasonic DMR-ES30VS [$199] Speakers (x5): Onkyo -included with HT-S580 System Powered Subwoofer: Onkyo -included with HT-S580 System To take into consideration... If you purchase any item(s) online, there will be (in most cases) an extra charge for shipping. Make sure you get the speaker cables (some home theater-in-a-box systems include speaker cables, however the stereo system won't come with any speaker cables). I hope this is of some help to you. If you have any more questions, I would be glad to offer you additional help. - XenonAudio
Same price range as comparable Sony equipment will get you better performance with ONKYO. Available at Circuit City and Fry's. I also like Denon. Sometimes a little higher price, but very good equipment and a pretty good value. I own two, myself. I have six systems (I'm a bit of an enthusiast) and the Denon receivers hold their own quite well. Clean and smooth sound. Power is pretty good, too. An AVR-1706 might be good. See Crutchfield site: - Wilton P
