kidSwift Sending sound from a sound card to home theater system...? - kidSwift I would like to connect my Panasonic SA-HT680 home theater system to my Creative Labs Audigy 4 sound card. The only output options the sound card has are the three standard miniplugs(i think, they're black orange and green in color), input for sound and microphone, and a digital mini-plug. The home theater system's only audio input options are the two analog (RCA) plugs. The only thing I have seen as an option so far is to use the sound card's digital output and convert it into the analog input, but the sound card manufacturer states that the sound card would only output at 2.1 sound. My question is (sorry for the long intro lol): What cables and/or converters do I need to send sound from my PC to my home theater system so as to get 5.1 surround sound?
Best Answer: If the sound card has a digital output...and your reciever is Dolby 5.1 capable, then all you may need to do is get a cable that takes the Digital output from the card and run it into the DIGITAL input of the reciever.Just make sure the card has the capability of outputting the 5.1 bitstream. Even better yet, Creative makes a little offboard expansion card that gives you standard Toslink and Coax digital outputs. I recommend this along with a Toslink cable to mitigate the ground plane noise that often accompanies the computer (can't get grounding problems with Toslink...it is optical). I believe you can buy the little expansion piece right from Creative Labs. - The Soundbroker
