Canadian Tech Guy Where can I get XP drivers for a Dell XPS m1330? - Canadian Tech Guy I have a new Dell XPS m1330 which came with Vista Home Premium installed. I would like to install Windows XP Pro but have run across a driver problem. The Dell support site does *not* have XP drivers for the audio or video cards. I managed to fins a suitable driver for the video, but I still have not been able to make the Audio work. The actual card / audio chipset is a Sigmatel stac 9228. I have tried drivers for similar models, like the m1210 and the Inspiron 1501. No luck. I have tried a general web search for such a, even the Sigmatel / IDT web site. No luck. Any ideas?
Best Answer: The XP audio driver is the same as the Dell Vostro 1400 (I think). At any rate, if you go to the Dell web page, perform a search for the driver called "r153908". That one worked for me. Also, you may find the default driver for the web cam does not work (it didn't for me, I am using the 2.0 mega pixel camera). This camera is from Creative labs. The driver for that is the CL live cam notebook pro driver. It adds in its "bundle-ware" and that may give you a few errors (just uninstall that part) but the driver works fine once that install is complete. Uninstalling the additional bundle-ware eliminates the errors. One last note: if you use integrated video instead of the NVIDIA card, then the driver you need is from the Intel web site. Do a search for the driver install file called "win2k_xp1431.exe". BTW, I cannot take credtit for all this. A wonderfully helpful Dell techie got me through it. :) Hope that is helpful. - cdn1967
I recently installed xp on a Dell that came with Vista. I couldn't find some of the xp drivers so I just installed service pack 2 for windows xp. In service pack 2, there is a feature that let's windows automatically search online for the appropriate driver. Download service pack 2 below and click start>control panel>system, then click the hardware tab. Click device manager and windows will show you all the hardware on your computer and tell you what hardware needs drivers. Right-click the sound card and choose update driver. Windows update will search online for the driver and install it. I hope this helps, Good Luck - Steve
