Play mpg/vob files with no authoring with fwd/rev/slow/pause?? - xox Brittany xox "Play mpg/vob files with no authoring with fwd/rev/slow/pause".... What is "no authoring" mean?? referring to dvd-r burning and formats that would work with my dvd player(Polaroid DVP-1000). Does that mean i cannot control the fwd/rew/slow/pause during movie play, or can i?? Or what might it mean if its not that??

Best Answer: "Authoring" is the process that takes a video file, and writes it so that the DVD player can navigate through the movie. Authoring goes from as complex as the fancy menus and intro scenes on your purchased movies, to as simple as inserting a disc and it autoplays. MPG (or mpeg2) is the file type that can play on DVD's. A VOB file is an mpeg2 file with additional information (authoring adds this information) that helps the dvd player translate and navigate through your dvd. VOB files go up to a maximum size of 1GB, so on most dvds you will have multiple VOBs. I'm guessing that it means you can have JUST an mpg or vob file, and be able to play it, without all the fancy authoring (that tells the dvd player how to play the movie). So in theory I guess you could drag mpeg2 or VOB files onto a DVD, burn it, and play it, without having to author it, or make a movie-dvd.
