Best Answer: You need more RAM. 512 is the bare minimum for VISTA to run, you need 1 GIG for average preformance and 2 GIG for better preformance. - Roy T
Get your ram up to 2GBs running Vista. Althou you may do ok just running 1GB since you have Basic, which doesn't have Aero, which loves eatting up ram, your puter will be happier with 2 gigs of ram. Also, if you're a gamer, when you get the chance, put a 8000series Nvidia or 2000series ATI video card in cuz that onboard GMA 950 stinks for gaming. Just dont use a card that your power supply, usually 300watts on Emachines, cant handle. Also do the Windows updates--they really help Vista. Limit how many webpages you have open online running 512MB of ram with vista. - s j
try connecting the computer directly to modem (not using a router) - JavaScript_Junkie
If possible upgrade the memory to the max possible allowed for the server. Computers work by taking programs and data from the Hard drive and putting them into memory when used. The more memory you have the more applications you can use at the same time. If you don't have enough memory to hold all the applications u open the computer takes the least used program from memory and puts it back to disk...this is called swapping...the more swapping u have...the slower the computer becomes. Windows Vista needs at least 1 GB (1000MB) of memory to work efficiently. Spreadsheets are a notorious memory hog. You don't need a router if this is the only machine u are connecting to the Internet. If u have DSL (cable modem) connect it directly the the computer. - Archer
In all honesty, lose Windows Vista if you can. If you have a copy of Windows XP laying around, install it. Windows Vista is a resource hog, plain and simple. If you don't have a copy of Windows XP, then your only option has already been mentioned: Buy more RAM. - Jeffrey F
upgrade your 512 mb ddr... increasing your RAM (random access memory) will speed up your processing times and therefore start applications faster - Delfin
