Terminal1 How big of a HDD can I Install in emachines? - Terminal1 I have an emachines w3619. It came with a 120GB HDD, and 512MB RAM. I upgraded the RAM to 2GB, which is the max. capacity. I don't know if I should replace with a larger capacity, or add another drive to what I all ready have? Any advice would be appreciated. I am hoping for something like 500GB.
Best Answer: Know ALL about Emachines- This one has the celeron D 360 @ 3.46 GHz (64-bit) The L2 cache is at 512 KB, and it uses the ol' Intel 945GC chipset. The Bus and mem. speed are matched at 533 MHz. The issue with this machine if memory serves is that it is a sata drive, but ONLY has the one sata connector? Better check that. If so, any slave drive would hafta be an IDE one. I would suggest getting an external if you need more storage capacity. The Western Digital MyBook is a good drive- 500Mb for about 120. Outside of that, a good Pci express card. I would stop there. - Astro
There's no reason at all as to why you couldn't install a 500GB drive. Going over the specs for your motherboard, though, it looks as though you only have one SATA port. Before going any further I would open the case and have a look. A SATA port looks like this: http://www.hardwarezone.com/img/data/articles/2007/2387/p6ngm_sata.jpg the SATA ports are the blue ones, yours may or may not be blue. If you are unlucky enough not to have more than one, buy an external drive, you may find this more convenient as you can take the drive with you and have your files on any computer. - pentiumwetwired
Hi, it dosn't matter what brand of pc you have, just make sure that your motherboard can handle the 500gb hdd. Also be sure that you have your Operating System disk (eg. windows xp or windows vista) because you will need to install a fresh copy of it on the new hard drive. here is a link for a great 500gb hdd on tiger direct. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3167558&Sku=THD-500M3 - smitty
500 will be fine but it may be easier for you to just add it with your 120 - donald w
