☣irishman76☣ I want to build a Desktop for gaming what can I get for $1300 - $1600 - ☣irishman76☣ I am going with Vista Ultimate 64 bit and want 6 or 8 GB of RAM, I want to go with a Intel Quad Core Processor and any recommendations on cases would be appreciated.
Best Answer: Well some tips: As you gonna put 64 bit windows, buy RAM of the same ammount ant type, so you can use dual channel. For examble you can get 1 pack of 2x 4GB DDR2 RAM, or 2 packs of 2 x 2GB DDR2 RAM. Also don't look for DDR3 as they're very expensive and you need Motherboard with chipset that supports DDR3 and they still cost much more than motherboards with DDR2 and you don't gain much in gaming. Also if you want PC most for gaming I recomend dual core 2 and not quad core CPU. This way you can buy a faster CPU with 2 cores with same money instead a slower 4cores CPU. Trust me you can see almost no improve using a QUAD core CPU, EVEN SOME GAMES WILL RUN SLOWER. See bellow link for more info http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000942.html Now if you buy a motherboard with 775 LGA slot you can upgrade CPU later if you want. Motherboard recommend anything from ASUS or MSI, with NVIDIA chipset though if you want SLI mode, unless you're ATI FUN, so you look motherboard with INTEL chipset support crosfire. So about 60$ two dvd-rw, about 100$-130$ two 320GB SATA drives, about 180$ for VISTA 64-bit Ultimate, left about 1000$ for case ,motherboard CPU memory and graphic card. ADD 150-200$ for 8GB memory see here: http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=17&name=Memory Motherboard recomend this one:(140$) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131232 I have it I use it for over a month, supports SLI 16X (that means has two PCIe 16X slots) and come in nice price, with what it offer. As for drivers issue already fixed, if you download lattest drivers from NVIDIA. SO LEFT 600 FOR CASE PSU and CPU. You need at LEAST 650W PSU, so you have no problem if you put later a second graphic card for SLI. SO THE REST IS UP TO YOU. Search the web, visit forums ask around, that's what I did. A good place to start is: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/ You can find anything about everything you want to build a PC. Find what you like ,then Google them to get best prices.
