Linkyn Damon what's the true defined difference between Norton Anti Virus 2008 and Norton Internet Security 2008? - Linkyn Damon please only educated and speak from experience answers only.
Best Answer: Norton Internet Security 2008 provides more than a antivirus such as a firewall, etc But the problem is norton like the other people have said is a system hog. Actually maybe not a totally system hog like the other versions but I recommend something else. The best paid security in my opinion is either kaspersky or nod32. The reason is they have better detection rates and are low on system resources. You may only download one antivirus and one firewall http://www.kaspersky.com/ or http://www.eset.com/ The best free antivirus in the opinion is Avira Antivir Free http://www.avira.com/en/downloads/ Pro: Great Detection rate for a free antivirus which is in the med 90%. Easy to use interface. Con: Updating may be slow and there is a popup every time it updates but its non intrusive 2nd best in my option is Avast! Home Edition http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html Pro: Good detection rate Con:May be hard to learn the interface 3rd best is AVG Free http://free.avg.com/ Pro: Easy to use interface and not bad detection rate Con:Lowest detection rate of the three with a detection rate in the low 80% You also need antispyware and you can download all of them http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html To keep yourself safer on the web http://www.mywot.com/en/download/ff Download firefox and use spywareblaster and a firewall if you don't have one already http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ - Daniel A
Norton Antivirus - only antivirus protection nothing else Norton Internet Security -Antivirus with other security features as well such as firewall, anti-spam and antispyware. - Jay R
Norton Anti-Virus is just for getting rid of viruses and spyware, adware. Internet Security 2008 (which I have) has a Firewall,Identity Safe(for your personal info,passwords...etc.),Anti-Virus,Anti-Spyware,Anti-Adware. Norton Internet Security 2008 is actually easy on your resourses.I've been using it and I've only had one problem(which I've fixed). It seems to conflict with Spybot S&D. I've even been able to talk with my Girlfriend on Yahoo Instant Messenger(using headphones and a microphone) WHILE Norton has been downloading and installing updates onto my computer, with no problems. For the people that say it slows down your computer, they probably have had bad experiences with EARLIER versions, have way too much stuff loaded onto their computers(using up too much power or memory),or ....they have crappy computers to begin with. Hope this helped. - timelord1962
hhaha..i just love when people say NIS or NAV uses a lot of resources. here is the truth 2008 version of norton are the fastest at scanning and they use 74% less memory compared to previous versions. now to your question Norton Internet Security has a firewall and other extra stuff in it Norton AntiVirus is only antivirus& antispyware - Ricky B
There is not difference because they both suck. I recommend getting Avast antivirus which is free for home use. If you are willing to pay, get Nod32 or Kaspersky. Avira is pretty good too. Stay away from Norton, McAfee - einigkeit99
Norton Internet Security, is a biigger resource hog and will slow your computer way down, Norton Anti Virus wont slow it down as much, but is still a hog and problematic. I would go with AVG 8.0, is user friendly and wont slow the computer down. I used to use norton now I use nothing, but AVG. Here the link, you can either go with the free or paid version. http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition - Linds
