AAGI Why are some tv stations' volume so much louder than others? Why are some of the commercials ear blasting loud? - AAGI tv stations: volume can vary greatly from one station to another: results? Constant turning the volume up and down. Commercials: irritatingly loud, especially those idiotic car dealer commercials. Can the cable companies not do something?
Best Answer: Its due to something called noise saturation. Even though your TV volume is at the same setting, the noise saturation levels vary from show to show. The sound engineers that are involved in the programs production have control over this. The volume setting on your tv is really just the maximum level for the sound, it does not control the noise level for all the sounds coming out of your tv, so you can have louder and quieter parts- like in a movie you can have loud sounds of someone yelling and then quieter parts of someone whispering. Also think of when music fades in and out when going to commercial breaks. Sound engineers contol whether particular sounds are going to be coming out at maximum levels or not. So they can have sounds blast out at 100% of how loud your tv is set at or at only 50%. On commercials they up the sound saturation deliberately to grab your attention. Some television shows can also seem louder because they have many different sound layers- music, background noise and dialogue- each one being louder than the other. - danikajjj
Advertisers purposely increase the volume to try to "reel" us in to what they are saying. They think if it's loud, we'll hear. I personally think it's very annoying and instead of making a sale, from my standpoint, I don't listen....turn the mute on, turn the channel, or leave the room for a few minutes. - lakerfan81734
