Best plasma or lcd tv 40" $1500? - barbie7034 I want to get my husband a tv for the holidays. Our living room has lots of tall narrow windows so, the only wall space to mount a tv is rather narrow. I've determined that it will have to be a 40". I know nothing about plasma vs lcd. wondering if anyone with better knowledge could guide me in the right direction. I'm thinking about purchasing from Best Buy. The 40" would be mounted about 12-13 feet away from the sofa. I want to stay under 1500.00 for everything. What's my best bet? What about sound? Do i need a surround sound system as well?

Best Answer: The Samsung LN40A650 is by far the best 40" LCD. Outstanding picture and all the latest features on an HDTV. Amazon has a great price right now. Under $1300 w/free shipping. That's much cheaper than Best Buy along w/no tax. You could even stay under your limit with an extended service plan or a surround sound system. Just a little advice: You really need to be 6-8 feet away to really reap the rewards of HD on a 40". At 12-13 feet you might want a 50" TV. That limits your choices a lot more. Maybe you could re-configure the room or put the TV somewhere else. Good luck. - Chef Tony
