Gary St. Thomas I have an HD TV question? - Gary St. Thomas we were looking into a samsung LCD but the guy at Bestbuy told us that plasma is better and has deeper blacks. i also heard that images can be burned onto them which im worried about. What plasma television has the best quality for under $2200? and are there any options to prevent this?
Best Answer: I'm amazed at the "lack of knowledge" people here have... A self proclaimed "TV Specialist" says pixel shift on a plasma tv? That is laughable. First of all, plasmas use gases like neon and make them glow by applying different electrical currents, plasmas DO NOT have shifting pixels whatsoever, that is a LCD! Now, plasmas are actually not as bad as some people say they are. The second answerer has no idea what he is talking about either because plasmas are brighter, not LCDs... that is why they are perfect for dark rooms. Plasmas give you an edge when watching fast-moving programs because they have a very high refresh rate, and so it almost totally eliminates artifacts. Plasmas are indeed a lot more costly to repair, and "theoretically" has a shorter life span. However, that is not true in reality, if you get 8-10 years out of your LCD, then do a victory dance. Now, your main concern - burn-ins. Burn-in was very common in plasmas, however today's plasmas are built to prevent burn-ins, they are much improved. Unless you leave the exact same image on the screen for 24 hours straight (which you should not do with a LCD either), the chances of it happening are very slim. All the myths about plasma tvs were once true, but the ones produced today are no longer prone to those problems, and even if they are, the improvements made are significant enough to minimize the chances. LCDs and plasmas are both great, plasmas are prone to burn-ins (very rare) and LCD's can get dead pixels. There are risks either way, and plasmas are great TVs. - ~
I will try to put your mind at rest! There is nothing wrong with plasma's! As long as you go with the right manufacturer. I recommend either Samsung or Panasonic. they have what is called pixel shift. it keeps the pixels rotating so you dont recieve screen burn. L.C.D. are just as likely to receive screen burn just as much as Plasma's. Plus if your plasma recieves a slight image burn it is able to fix itself where LCD's cannot. L.C.D's cannot provide a natural black therefore your picture will seem as if you have a white glaze over it. Panasonic has a Plasma model # Pan th50pz80u. Samsung has the Sam Pn50a650. - flo~
LCD is better. Plasma is better if you're going to use it as a movie theatre because of the deeper blacks. plasma is better if youre in a big room too because you can watch a plasma from any angle and get the same quality while LCD is best from the front. LCD is brighter which is better for everyday watching and they come in more sizes. They burned image problem can be avoided if you buy a good brand like Sony and Panasonic. - Steven N
LCD are best for the bargain. Plasmas are fighting to stay around, but the burning on the screen is hard to avoid, unless your source of video has its own screen saver (like direct tv recievers). Id go with LCD because its brighter as well, and its a LITTLE cheaper to repair than plasma. - Psychout
i wouldnt recommend a plasma TV the screen burns images regularly and the are prone to cracking... you will not see a difference between an LCD or a plasma tv other than the cost i prefer samsung tv's heres a site where you can view some :) http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/type/type.do?group=television&type=television&cid=ppc_ukc_goo_samsung+generic_samsung+TV+generic_samsung+lcd - Nick S
