Sean Black bars on TV. How do you get rid of them.? - Sean When you record a TV with a camera it comes up with moving black bars on the screen. Does anyone know how to get rid of them???
Best Answer: Without some very sophisticated electronics it's virtually impossible. The black bars you're seeing are the TV's frame gaps. The TV makes a picture 25 times per second (PAL) or 30 times per second (NTSC -- actually it's closer to 29.97 or something like that). In between those frames, the screen actually blanks while the vertical trace is returned to the top of the screen. Because of a litte magic in the human eye/brain called "persistence of vision" you never notice the retrace. Unfortunately, your camera has no such persistence, so it DOES see the retrace. And since the TV's frames are not synchronized with your camera's frames, the retrace can occur during the camera's frame building cycle, so the camera will see some black in the image. The bar moves because of the slight difference in the rate at which the frames are built in the camera (30 Hz) and shown on the TV screen (29.97 Hz). When professional studios show pictures with TV screens in them, they either use the sophisticated syncing equipment to eliminate the bar, or, more likely, the screen is blank and they add the picture later as a post production effect. - dansinger61
