wiegmale Can I weatherproof speakers? - wiegmale I am looking to building a system out at a clubhouse, and I am wanting DJ quality speakers (able to crank up the volume quite a bit), I was wondering if I could take my old car audio system and make a box for it and hook it up out the clubhouse outside. What would the weather do to these speakers? Also would it be possible to get 200W Professional speakers and hook those up. How would the weather hold up on these? Basically I'm asking for my best option, with limited cost. I want to be able to crank the volume up pretty high and have decent sounding speakers without worrying aobut the weather.
Best Answer: The answer is no, you can't convert your car boom system into an outdoor system. There are two major flaws with that idea. Number One, the two spaces (the inside of your car and your backyard), are two completely different acoustic spaces. The full sound you are getting from your car system would be lost in the great outdoors. If you want that kind of sound out of speakers, you should buy speakercraft rock speakers. These speakers are highly efficient and pound for Bass. They also make powered outdoor subwoofers. These are EQ'ed for big open spaces and if you give it lots of power, you will be getting even volume for a block party. Second problem, the car speakers were made for dry spaces, the speakercraft were made to stay outside, so you wont have to stop the party when the rain or snow comes. - brenda4ever
anything you would do to them to weatherproof (or attempt to) would change the sound quality drastically. for experiment sake, put them in a plastic garbage bag and see what happens... cost you about 50 cents. - trade_info
You cannot weatherproof standard car or home audio speakers. The moisture & humidity (or cold) will ruin them within one season. Best bet is to find some good outdoor speakers (I have Bose 251's, but Bose also makes some wicked outdoor subs) on eBay, or just run the wires outside to the place where you want them, and pick up some good used JBL's or Cerwin Vegas and put them inside when you're done (not in the garage -- too humid & damp.) Good Luck. - JeffyB
No you cannot weather proof speakers, but you can purchase them. Bose, Advent, Yamaha, JBL, all have them. Good luck - Who dat
Get some marine speakers, made for boats, they should work. - El Pollo Diablo
i dont know if this will help your cost issue, but they do make weather-proof speakers. - Rob
