Question and Answers

royalbluebear I have old pictures that are in print and no negatives, how can I scan them accurately without tearing them? - royalbluebear These are old, old pictures of lots of family members. I have heard there is a photo scanner that you simply insert the photo and it will do it, kind of like a business card. Or should I have a professional do it cause I only know so much when it comes to cropping, sizing or cutting the picture digitally.
Best Answer: You can do it yourself, but if you don't know much about scanning then you will get much better results if you take it to a store that specializes in photos. Photo stores have better equipment then you can buy at most stores, plus they have a good eye for adjusting pictures for optimal results. The down side is that professionals often charge a premium. If you want to do it yourself then I would recommend a flatbed scanner. They don't damage the photo at all while scanning (except for exposure to light; but there's no way to avoid that, and it's very minor anyway). Most scanners come with simple to use photo software. If you have a friend who's into computers, most likely they could teach you how to use it in no time at all. - Jonathan
A scanner doesn't move the picture through anything (flat bed style) It's safe for your pictures. Most scanners come with photo editing software that is easy to use. You can even learn to fix those old photos. If they have water marks, bent marks..etc. - Smiley
You can get yourself a flatbed scanner or take it to a local store, they usually have the flatbed scanners there and you can choose what you want. Pretty good copies too. - jen2swt02
