Chancey's Mom I disconnected my drives! HELP!!!? - Chancey's Mom (I have WINDOWS XP) You know that icon on the bottom right by the clock that says "Safely disconnect hardware"? Well, I had my phone memory card (Sony M2) in the slot, and I had to reformat it because my son pulled it out, so long story short, I clicked that icon and didn't mean to, but disconnected my G, H, I and whatever other drives (I assume for memory cards and such). How to I fix this? I'm kind of PC savvy, but I can't figure this one out. Your help is much appreciated.
Best Answer: Just restart the computer and it should be back to normal. If it's a flash drive just remove it and insert it again and it should read correctly again. - KTang
Reboot your computer. - Hacker Zero
I agree, restarting the computer should work fine. If you remove the drive from the USB or card reader and reinsert it, that should mount the card again. - Jack
GO TO DEVICE MANAGER FROM THE SYSTEM ICON IN THE CONTROL PANEL.TO MAKE IT EASIER,CHANGE THE CONTROL PANEL TO CLASSIC TO GET THE ICONS BACK IF YOU NEED TO GET BACK FAST.IN DEVICE MANAGER LOOK FOR THE YELLOW QUESTION MARKS NEXT TO A DEVICE.CLICK THE PLUS ICON TO OPEN THE DEVICE PROPERTIES.SELECT DRIVERS.SELECT RE-INSTALL OR UPDATE DRIVER.IF ONLY MEMORY CARDS WERE DISABLED,YOU MIGHT ONLY NEED TO ENABLE THEM AGAIN.IF THEY WERE UNINSTALLED,YOU MAY NEED TO RE-INSTALL THE DRIVERS FROM A CD THAT CAME WITH THEM SO NEW HARDWARE WIZARD WILL DETECT THE DEVICES.IF YOUR LUCKY,THEY MIGHT BE PLUG AND PLAY AND WINDOWS WILL SEE THEM WHEN YOU INSERT THEM WITHOUT INSTALLING ANY NEEDED DRIVERS.HOPE THIS HELPED YOU. - RON M
The best thing for you to do would be a system restore it might take a little while. Then get all your software updates. Or just try updates from windows. - frenchfriedfrogslegs
