Steve, more info would help. Like how old is the MacBook Pro? Is it under warranty? Was it running on battery or was it on the power supply? Where was the computer when it caught on fie? Was it on a rug so the vent holes were plugged? Was the battery an Apple battery or an eBay replacement? Did you spill any liquids on it? MacBooks don't just catch on fire. I have never see or read a story about one doing that. - Kahless
that wasn't very smart...you should never leave your computer on for a long time if your not using it...especially laptops - appl3bottomz00
Apple care is your only choice. Did you have the intelligence to buy it if your buying a 2000 dollar computer. If your spending that kind of money, you might as well get apple care. duhhh - rdrovda
Say a prayer over the carcass. Place it in a box and give it a solemn burial.. Then go buy a pc. If it helps you feel any better, you're not alone. Wonder if any class action lawsuit in the works. Another person is having theirs replaced free: Update: Apples service has been fantastic. They are replacing the laptop with a aluminium case macbook pro and will probably compensate for property damage where appropriate. Someone is coming to my house tonight to collect the damaged unit. That way they can quickly assess what has happend and take appropriate action. To initiate a recall, they first need to know what caused the incident. I have to say, I am really please with the way this issue has been dealt with. Kudos to the Australian Apple team, they have made me feel like a properly cared for customer - a rare thing for big corporations these days. link--> http://forums.mactalk.com.au/29/28926-macbook-inferno.html - cajunspike1959
And everyone told you not to buy a pc... - Mark N
