yrunhi I bought a NEW HARD DRIVE.? - yrunhi I just went out and bought a new hard drive was wondering if there was any special thing i need to do to get it going or do I just hook it up an it well find it and set it up. I bought a 320 HDD SATA 2 16MB CACHE 1 I already have 80GB SATA2 WD HDD istalled as my first one and want the bigger one as my slave. I do have the cables that came with it when I first got it. tell me how I go about setting it up.
Best Answer: Since it's a SATA drive you just need to connect it. Your motherboard will detect the second drive automatically. Once you boot to windows, you'll have to format the second drive to use it. You will need drivers however if you wish to use your drive in AHCI or RAID mode. - Cral Z
hmm try maybe it need a driver or something like that a program my dad bought a mybook 320gb for his pc and i had to install a driver search for that and if it does get all the stuff the doesnt fit in your 80gb drag and drop it or copy and paste it into the lick the harddrive gives you if it has a driver. ohhh i forgot thatl work if its a external hardrive - Santino T
Here's a step by step, with diagrams and photos..... http://compreviews.about.com/od/tutorials/ss/DIYSATAHD.htm You could leave your programs on the first Western Digital and on the new one put all your back ups, data, pictures and items that you would want to have available should the first drive take a dive..... as long as you have all your programs...... With the large size of the 2nd drive, if you did a ghost copy of your first hard drive, you would be able to boot up and use the 2nd drive should the first one go toes up..... several good ways to go to help yourself...... Good Luck..... - Big Toe
No... You just plug it in and it should work... it will just show up as an external drive. - A Mad White-Hatter
