ken True or false: RAM is a collection of capacitors. A CPU is a collection of tansistors.? - ken Thanks so much to all who help m understand!
Best Answer: That would be true, but there are transistors in RAM as well: "Dynamic RAM Similar to a microprocessor, a memory chip is an integrated circuit (IC) made of millions of transistors and capacitors. In the most common form of computer memory, dynamic random access memory (DRAM), a transistor and a capacitor are paired to create a memory cell, which represents a single bit of data. The capacitor holds the bit of information -- a 0 or a 1 (see How Bits and Bytes Work for information on bits). The transistor acts as a switch that lets the control circuitry on the memory chip read the capacitor or change its state." Look here: http://www.howstuffworks.com/ram.htm - truetejas
Ummm, sort of! A RAM 'stick' is composed mostly of transistors and capacitors. A generic outlook, I suppose, would be to state that RAM is a collection of capacitors. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/ram.htm Same thing with a CPU. Mostly transistors, but there are other related components inside to utilize the transistors. It's not just a case with a bunch of transistors inside! http://computer.howstuffworks.com/microprocessor.htm - Chickster
