Harvey B Is it safe to upgrade ps3? - Harvey B I mean harddrive upgrade i use 40GB i know how to upgrade but is there any effect about ps3 settings or other?
Best Answer: Yes, it is perfectly safe to update the harddrive for a PS3 as Sony themselves have instructions on how to do it in the User Manual. Just make sure that the harddrive is 2.5" SATA and it is 5400rpm. If it is any higher, say 7400rpm, then the harddrive will use more power causing the PS3 to over heat and for the console to NOT run at optimum pace! Instructions on how to change the HDD can be found here: http://www.gamersreports.com/article/43/ Hope this helps! - 1ll1m1nat0r
it's safe to but you should probably back up your data and everything... that might save the settings and everything too. - Joey
the system was designed so that the HDD could be upgraded, sony knows that the installs, and downloadable content will fill an HDD quick, especially the 40's, which is why they made it legal to replace your hard drive without voiding the warranty. any 2.5 SATA hard drive will fit in the PS3, then you power it up, go into system setings, and find the format utility option. this will format the HDD and make it useable for your system. - eaglekeeper_98
