Lost files on computer? - groovychik_116 I own a Mac OSX, I was wondering if anyone knew how I could get back any files that I havent seen for a few years. Because aren't they still on there somewhere, even if they aren't visible in folders? thanks

Best Answer: Hi.you can use recovery soft wares like Active Undelete or Active file recovery or Easy Recovery Pro but Active Undelete is more useful and I recomend it.by these softwares or other recovery softwares you can come back your lost files even those you delete them resonably(by shift+deleting them).but the important matter is that when you bring new information to your Hard Drive the former informations will lost forever it means:in fact when you bring new informations to your Hard Drive the deleted informations lose forever~not when you delet them with recycle bin in windows.when a file is deleted it is still in your Hard Drive but it is hidden and you can recover them with Recovery soft wares. also try:www.file-recovery.net I request you to choose it as best answer!!!!!! - MeHrDaD R

Techinically, deleted and 'recycled' files are NOT permanantly removed until overwritten by other files within the structure. So as the years have gone by in your case, it is more than likely that if you have emptied your recycled bin then these 'removed' files would have been overwritten. Sometimes you can restore recycled files using special 3rd Party software. This is where the software goes one step beyond the recycle bin to get the files back. Hope this helps, Rob - chapers

when files are deleted totally their original space is marked free. This means the machine can use that space to store system temporary files or your saved files. Expecting to get them back after several hours is a bit much, after several years there is no chance, if they were just kept your drive would fill up in about a month. - Colinc
