Peter P cleaning waste ink well on mp830? - Peter P where does the ink go when cleaning print heads. I had heard there is an ink well, sponge the ink goes into? where is it and how do I clean it. Thank you
Best Answer: The printer uses a fibrous pad to absorb waste ink which is siphoned out of the printhead during a cleaning cycle. The only reason you should ever need to clean or replace the waste ink pads would be if you're receiving the "waste ink tank full" error message. At that point, you can either buy a new printer or take it to a service depot to have them replace the pads and reset the waste ink counter or you can try to do it yourself. Average charges for doing this range from $50-$85. You can try to reset the waste ink counter without cleaning the pads but you're in for a big mess if they get saturated with ink and start to leak on your desk. First, remove the ink tanks and the cartridge carriage, then try to fish out the waste ink pad from under the carriage. (This should be possible without dissassembling the printer.) Rinse out the pads using warm water and let them dry. Try not to destroy them by wringing them out. Use a bunch of rags to press the water out and help them dry more quickly. When the pads are dry, you can use the following information to reset the waste ink counter and resume printing without errors. *AF-Key = Additional Functions key = the black button with the star in a head above it. 1) Enter SERVICE MODE. (Press AF-Key, followed by "scan", "copy", "scan" -Keys) 2) Select TEST MODE (press right arrow button 13 times). 3) Hit -OK- 4) Select [8] PRINTER TEST 5) Hit -OK- 6) It'll now say "- 8-2 +" press the right arrow key once to get "- 8-3 +" 7) Hit -OK- 8) Select 0. [INK COUNT]. 9) Hit -OK- 10) It should return to showing the "8: Printer Test - 8-3 +" 11) Press the [Stop/Reset]key - (black key with triangle and circle on it) - (returning to the state of 4), and then press the [ON/OFF] key. - Dubbya
