Question and Answers

Nick C Printer Sharing between XP and Vista? - Nick C I have a Windows XP Professional SP 3 desktop computer, and a Windows Vista SP 1 notebook pc. My desktop is hooked up to my Canon Inkjet printer. I was trying to make my notebook use the printer through the network, and it works. The only problem I'm having is that whenever I set my desktop to standby, or when it shuts down, the printer will not work. Is there a way to make it so that I can print on my laptop whilst the desktop is on stand by or shut down? I'd prefer a way where the desktop does not need to be on everyday for me to use the printer on the notebook. Thanks!
Best Answer: Never put the desktop in standby or have the HDD shutdown. That PC has to be active you can have the monitor go to sleep but not the PC. If you want you can get a Print Server that could stay on always. That's why there are LAN printer that don't need a PC to manage them. There now wireless printer also. These printers you just install the driver and the web software to manage the print queue should there be a problem printing. - tipstir
